People have crushes. Gamers also have crushes, but probably in-game crushes. Admit it, there have been a few female characters that you’ve gotten the hots for along the way. Here’s a list of crushes we’re sure you’ve had up until now. How many of your crushes feature on this list?
Aloy
Horizon Zero Dawn
Hey, the post apocalypse is still a great place for romance, especially if you’ve got Aloy by your side. This bow wielding bad ass won our hearts in Guerrilla’s new open world adventure Horizon Dawn, and we’re eager to see more of her soon.
2B
Nier Automata
Me and 2B have had a good thing going on, especially since that nude mod released for the PC version of Nier: Automata.
Lara Croft
Tomb Raider
Probably the first name that comes to mind when you think of female gaming characters. She possesses a certain set of skills that aid her in her fight for survival. Nothing seems to be able to hold this one down. She is known outside the gaming circle as well by the two blockbuster films in which the character was played by Angelina Jolie.
Tifa Lockhard
Final Fantasy
One of the more important characters in Square Enix’s role playing video game Final Fantasy VII, Tifa has since appeared in the fighting game Egrgeiz and made cameo appearances in several other titles as well.
A member of the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE and owner of the 7th Heaven bar in the slums of Midgar. She is the childhood friend of Cloud Strife. She convinces him to join the group to watch out for him and later assisting him in saving the Planet from the game’s villain.
Elizabeth
Bioshock Infinite
When Bioshock Infinite previews were shown to gamers across the world, game developer Irrational made it quite clear that Elizabeth would be an accomplice to the protagonist and would not need to be taken care of or micromanaged. But that was not something gamers really bought at that point. It didn’t take too long to gamers to realize that they actually relied on Elizabeth much more than she did on you. With such an important role in the game’s narrative, many said they would have preferred to play as Elizabeth herself.
Triss Merigold
Witcher
Everyone remembers Triss as she was the one who turned Geralt from a boy into a man. The protagonist got lucky after he brewed a special potion for Triss after which she returned the favor, twice. She plays a prominent role in the second game as well as she helps Geralt prepare to fight a Kayran by introducing him to Cedric. Then they bang again in the third iteration of the game.
All said and done, Triss is easily one of the most important supporting characters in the series, having appeared and played a key role in all three installments. The sorceress’ complicated relationship with Geralt add an interesting dimension to the game.
Elena Fisher
Uncharted
The fact that she features in arguably one of the best game of all time, is good enough reason for her to appear on this list. But she certainly holds her own/ This brave reporter joins Drake on his adventures and virtually does everything that the male protagonist does. If you ask me, she might have been able to play the main protagonist, what say?
Miranda Lawson
Mass Effect
An integral part to the Mass Effect series, Lawson is a human Cerberus officer. As Jacob Taylor’s informant, she guides and advises him during missions. She is known to be a capable leader, proving so by being one of the few members of the squad who can successfully lead a fireteam in the final mission without anyone dying. She is Shepard’s second-in-command and executive officer and files mission reports directly to the Illusive Man.
Bayonetta
Bayonetta
Bayonetta shares a complex relationship with the gaming community. She is seen as a feminist icon by some and by others is criticized as a prime example of the industry’s over-sexualisation of female characters. Whichever side of the argument you stand for, there is no denying that this character has left an impression on gamers across the world.
I think all gamers across the world who have played this game have one question in mind – How does she get anything done? I kid! They’re all probably wondering if she uses Garnier Long and Strong, cause that is some serious ass that she kicks with that hair.
United States of America Women’s Team
FIFA 16
By far the best women’s team in this EA’s latest iteration of the FIFA franchise. FIFA’16 saw one the biggest improvements the series has seen in recent years. Other than the usual improved graphics and artificial intelligence, FIFA’16 saw the inclusion of women’s teams.
I’ll just say it. I LOVE PLAYING WITH THE WOMEN’S TEAMS! I mean seriously, they are much faster than the men or at least the game play seems so. You can take shots from far off and stand a decent chance of scoring a goal. Just try it once and tell me you didn’t like it.
Chun-Li
Street Fighter
Chuni-Li is an important part of the gaming industry as she was the first female fighter in a fighting game– and not just any, but one of the most iconic games of all time, Street Fighter. Though one of the youngest and perhaps not one of the stronger characters in the roster, Chun-Li takes on opponents twice her size as she is the quickest in the game. And she is undoubtedly the most popular female playable characters in the series.
Joel
The Last of Us
Men want to be him and women want to be with him. You’ve got to admit that Joel gave you a man boner, or actually maybe just a regular boner. You’ve got to feel for Joel, he missed out on college cause he had Sarah when he was fairly young, then had to raise her by himself. To top that he worked long hours on a construction site to support himself and Sarah, but still managed to have quality time with her. Then he is suddenly flung into a post apocalyptic scenario working as a black market smuggler, dealing with the loss of his daughter. Joel’s transformation, not only as a person but through his relationship with Ellie, is something that makes one fall in love with the character, regardless of whether you’re a chick or guy.
Many feel that Joel is the bad guy in the game, robbing humanity of it’s only chance of returning to previous civilization. But give the guy a break! He became a heartless killer once he lost his daughter, then loses Tess soon in the game and then is extremely close to loosing the only thing he gets attached to in years. You can’t really blame him now yeah? I would have done the same.
Joel is our honorary mention.
Before ending this article I would like mention this article is a fun read and is not to be taken too seriously. I have tried to make this piece fun to read, at the same time have tried to keep away from anything that might offend anyone. In case there is something that you may find offensive, do let me know and I will deal with it accordingly. The part about Bayonetta might be a point of concern to some, but like mentioned above, it’s just a joke and is not meant any other way.
