We covered the top showings at E3 2017 and now we’re covering the disappointments from E3. This is all based on my personal opinion, which will differ from yours so please, don’t come at me with your pitchforks.
Nintendo
Metroid Prime 4
Nintendo had a pretty great conference, probably the best conference this year so choosing a disappointing announcement was kinda hard. This was extreme nitpicking but they announced Metroid Prime 4 with what was essentially a gif of the title of the game. It hyped everyone up for sure but then we have nothing else, no images or screenshots or alpha footage or anything.
Sony
Monsters of the Deep
Okay, what? No seriously, why even announce this? A Final Fantasy Fishing game for the VR because apparently, people’s fantasy is to fish.
Microsoft
Minecraft 4k
Microsoft announced their new upgraded console and state that it can run games at 4k and some even at 60fps and then what do they show? Minecraft. At 4k. Because Minecraft at 4k is going to be mind blowing on the Xbox One X. Also, this just shows their lack of first party exclusives since they didn’t really have anything better to show.
EA
FIFA 18
I’ve played every FIFA from 02 and well, this showing had nothing about the actual gameplay. Better animations, the journey makes a return and signature moves for players but no details or info about the core gameplay which is why this was the disappointing one for me from EA’s conference.
Bethesda
Skyrim VR
More Skyrim. It’s great that Bethesda are putting Skyrim out on all platforms for people to experience and even VR now but it’s gotten old. We’re tired of Skyrim being announced almost every E3 for a new console or platform. Give us something new in TES universe, please.
PC Gamer
Shadowverse: Wonderland Dreams
This conference had a lot of indie games and games that were previously announced in Microsoft’s press conference but this announcement was one where I was left scratching my head. I didn’t even know this game existed let alone an announcement for DLC. This is a card game for all those who are wondering.
Ubisoft
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Before you take out your pitchforks and come after me, just hear me out. The sequel to a cult classic is announced, the director is on stage talking about it, it has the letter 2 in the title, everyone is finally relieved that they will get an answer to the cliffhanger ending but NOPE. It’s a prequel and all you get is a CGI cutscene with no other details. This is on this list not because it was underwhelming or a bad game but because we got been blue balled.
Well, those were my disappointing showings at E3 2017 from the specific conferences. Picking a one from Nintendo and Ubisoft was kinda hard but there we go. Let us know what announcements disappointed you by commenting.
