Darkest Before Dawn – The Long Dark – Review

After almost 3 years in Steam Early Access, The Long Dark is finally out for PC and consoles, and the end result is a truly harrowing and immersive survival experience along with a compelling episodic single player campaign. The game is set in the harsh cold Canadian wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. The climate anomaly is clearly giving a nod to today’s climate sentiments. While the game features a robust single player campaigns with 5 episodes, two of which are available as  of writing this review, the main component is the Survival Mode, which is a free-roam non-narrative survival sandbox. You start off scavenging for the most basic of items to survive, including food, shelter and a source of heat to stay warm. Surviving in The Long Dark is a brutal, challenging and...

Assassin’s Creed Origins New Gameplay Shows Off Great Side-Quests

Ubisoft has revealed a new 19-minute gameplay video of a side quest in Assassin’s Creed Origins running on Xbox One X. The new side mission looks really interesting, with various stages to it and meaningful objectives. It’s good to see Ubisoft toning down on random fetch quests and repetitive mission design, and I hope that this remains true for the rest of the game. Assassin’s Creed Origins is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27. Register with us for the best in gaming, and join us for video game discussions on our forums. Favorite

Hellblade Deletes Your Save File If You Keep Dying

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is game where you play as Senua, who is heading into hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. It features some really intense combat, and excellent representation of psychosis. Read our review for Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice here: Review Senua is also carrying an infection of sorts called “The Rot”, and it’s represented in the form of a black mark on her hand. As you keep dying the infection spreads, and once it gets to your head Senua will die permanently and your save will be deleted, forcing you to start again. The game makes this very clear early on, and this makes every combat encounter even more intense, specially when you take a few hits and are really struggling to stay alive. This feature might put off some people ...

New PS4 Update Disables MTX Mod Chips That Allow Users To Pirate Games

Sony very recently released another system update for the PlayStation 4. The update version is 4.73, and in addition to fix some stability issues, it also disables the MTX mod chips that allow illegal sharing of game files on the console. Piracy on the PS4 is fairly uncommon, limited mainly to mod shops in the Brazilian area that have a game sharing setup. However, the MTX mod chip, a six-wire chip previously compatible with the update version 4.72 was made by hackers in order to transfer their downloaded game files to a hard drive. It did not work with the PSN Store, but still provided an easy workaround for people not willing to buy the games. We’re yet to find out if the hackers will try to undo the update’s attempts to block the chip by coming up with a new version. Stay tu...

Hideo Kojima Is Using Sophisticated Tech To Drive Visuals In Death Stranding

During Siggraph 2017, Principal Tech Programmer from Guerilla Games, Giliam de Carpentier and Kohei Ishiyama from Kojima Productions held a presentation called Decima Engine: Advances in Lighting and AA, providing a glimpse at the fog system being developed for the upcoming Death Stranding. While the Decima Engine has in-built flexible atmospheric scattering system linked with clouds and lighting, Kojima Productions needed a system better optimized for photo-realistic rendering. They developed a model independently, where information about the sun and the sky light is supplied to the height fog model from the precomputed atmospheric scattering model. Two types of conditions were precomputed, sunny and desnse fog. Using these two as the base conditions, it’s possible to portray differ...

Some PS4 Games Are So Bad Even Steam Stays Away From Them

Consoles were known for their curated games and digital stores that used to have standards. And sure, they’ve learned some valuable lessons from the biggest online storefront when it comes to Video Games, ie Steam. However, it seems that Sony has also picked up a few bad lessons along the way. Lately there has been a surge of asset flips, broken games, and games with barely any content in them. There are even a few games on the PSN store that are so bad, they couldn’t even get through Steam Greenlight. Recently Jim Sterling put out a video where he takes the audience through some of the worst games on the PSN Store and he highlighted how some of these games are being officially promoted by Sony on their YouTube channel and being given the spotlight on the store page. Life of Bl...
