Strong Link Between Gaming And Playing Real Sports

Your endless hours of playing Fifa has finally come good 🙂 New research from ESSEC, one of France’s leading business schools, has found that playing sports videogames can increase participation in real sports, especially among young men and boys. 38 per cent of boys under the age of 21 who play sports games on “active” game consoles practice their favourite virtual sport in real life, while 75 per cent of gamers participate in some kind of real sport, according to the study. “Videogames are frequently demonised. We now know that these fears are unfounded,” said Thierry Lardinoit, ESSEC’s marketing head. “There is a strong correlation between playing video games and participating in real sports. Watching television is a threat to physical activity. Videogames are not, however,” he add...

Performance anxiety for PS4 and Xbox One ?

With the upcoming next generation of consoles, PlayStation 4 is currently around 50 per cent faster than its rival Xbox One. Multiple high-level game development sources have described the difference in performance between the consoles as “significant” and “obvious.” It is reported that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer. Microsoft is aware of the problem and, having recently upped the clock s...

Valve Unleashes the Steam Controller

Valve came out with the final announcement of the week, with the Steam Controller. They seem to be set out with a singular goal: to bring the Steam experience, in its entirety, into the living-room. Here are the few brief highlights of the controller. Complete catalog The Steam Controller is designed to work with all the games on Steam: past, present, and future. Even the older titles in the catalog and the ones which were not built with controller support will can be played using this new controller. Superior performance Traditional gamepads force us to accept compromises. With a goal to improve upon the resolution and fidelity of input that’s possible with those devices, the Steam controller offers a new and, we believe, vastly superior control scheme. Steam claims the controller is just...

4 Kickass features of Steam OS

A long countdown to a three-tiered announcement, Valve has finally rolled out phase one of its plan to take over your living room with SteamOS. What many thought was going to be a Steam Box console is for now a Steam platform, one that will be available for hardware manufacturers to implement at will. Perhaps not surprisingly, the immediate focus is on gaming. Why the need for SteamOS? Valve honcho Gabe Newell has long been saber-rattling in Windows 8’s general direction, advocating instead for a Linux-based solution. Valve is wary of a Windows 8 that might threaten to supplant Steam as The Place To Go For Games. SteamOS will also focus on (naturally) graphics processing efficiencies, with access to the full 3000+ strong Steam catalog, and several top titles available—at some point—n...

3 Insanely Difficult Video games

This weekend while clearing up my cupboard I came across one truly awesome gadget J Yes my old 8 bit gaming device and nostalgia struck whether it was those endless sessions of Supermario bros or the albeit silly but fun Duck Hunt. There is something which attracts all of us to retro games, maybe it is the novelty factor or maybe the sheer simplicity of graphics and gameplay. Looking back at the golden generation of gaming we’ve compiled a list of 3 insanely difficult video games. I am sure you guys must have played most of them. Do share your thoughts in the comments below. Contra Like most retro entries on this list, Contra doesn’t respect you from the very beginning, which makes for a highly turbulent and frustrating relationship from day one. Poised as a Rambo-like maverick, your...

Sony Reveal PS Vita TV

Sony have revealed a lot of stuff at its pre-TGS press conference, and other than the PS Vita redesign, the most surprising aspect had to be the unveiling of the piece of Vita-related hardware. This newest addition is called PS Vita TV, and what it does is let you play Vita games on your T.V…..and some other cool stuff as well. PS Vita TV is a really small piece of hardware, not much larger than a deck of cards. The dimensions are- 6c, by 10cm, and its easily the smallest PlayStation hardware ever. The main idea of the PS Vita TV is to let gamers play Vita games on a big screen using a DualShock 3 controller, but not only that. While this device has card slots for Vita games, and accepts Vita memory cards, it will also let you use video streaming services such as Hulu. It also allows...

4 Single Player Facts we learned about GTA V

We are less than two weeks away from arguably one of the biggest video game launches in the medium’s history with GTA V, we delve into some facts which we believe can make it awesome. Detailed Gunplay Mechanics This is something that we observed through the numerous trailers, but it’s nice finally having some confirmation. If you are unaware, it’s overt that the shooting mechanics in GTA V are a hybrid between the mechanics found in Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, which involve weapon wheels, basic cover, and similar aiming sway. That’s a wonderful thing too, considering both of those games received rave reviews. There are also lock-on options available for those wanting a less stressful experience and would prefer looking like a badass without much effort. The power of Land, Sea, Air...

Watch Dogs protagonist inspired by Dexter

Ubisoft senior producer Dominic Guay confessed that  protagonist in Watch dogs is “not necessarily a good guy,” but is someone gamers can relate to. Aiden Pearce, the main protagonist in Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world action game Watch Dogs, is said to have shades of grey. Senior producer Dominic Guay explained in a new ZoomIn Games video interview that Ubisoft was inspired by Dexter from Showtime’s Dexter. “The way we designed him is that he would not necessarily be a good guy or a bad guy,” Guay said. “So we’re inspired by characters like Dexter, where the main character is not necessarily a good guy, but he’s a person with flaws, with qualities; someone we can relate to and that you will bond with even though he does sometimes things ...

8 Reasons why Affleck will be do a good job as Batman (Pt.2)

  4. Zack isn’t stupid We all know Sucker Punch wasn’t the best of his movies, and we have right reason to believe that he may screw this one up too. But we tend to forget that he has been learning from Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer and it was with their help that he portrayed a very interesting, and in my opinion, a rather unique spin on Superman. He seemed to have a knack for for portraying stories. ‘Man of Steel’ was a good movie, after all it was of Kent finding his way in this world, not pun intended, and I think he did a good job in making the audience feel the detachment and alienation he felt. 4. He’ll work behind the scenes Affleck isn’t that sort of an actor who just does the bare minimum required, but actually gives a lot of input ...
