With Call of Duty going back to its roots of World War II let’s take a look some of the Call of Duty games that were not really up to the mark or just fell flat when compared to its mighty legacy. Before people come at me with pitchforks, this is a list based on my opinion which will most likely differ from yours so before you start commenting with profanities, read why I feel so and then tell me why you think it shouldn’t be on this list.
Call of Duty: Ghosts
FISH A.I. I mean, when one of your selling points during a conference is ” Fish moving out of the way” what more can one say. Ghosts was released on the latest gen of consoles and was expected to make full use of the new consoles but that was not the case. It wasn’t just visually boring, the gameplay felt uninspired along with a bland story. The only saving grace for me was Riley The Dog but even Riley couldn’t save it. The multiplayer had huge maps that made it seem empty and were slow paced. The whole CoD community agrees that this is probably the worst game in the series.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified
Now, a lot of you might not have heard of this game and that’s good. Black Ops Declassified is a PS Vita(RIP) game that serves as a prequel to Black Ops 2. The story mode is around an hour long, multiplayer maps are extremely small which makes it seem like you always spawn in the enemy’s crosshair. It also suffered from a lot of technical glitches and buggy A.I. that also didn’t really help this game.
Call of Duty 3
One of the only main Call of Duty games to not be released on PC because Treyarch had previously not worked on PC games. This game suffers from the same problem that Ghosts suffered from and that is that it was too similar to its predecessors. Call of Duty didn’t build on the fantastic game that Call of Duty 2 was. It was made in only 8 months, was an absolute glitch fest and was very uninspiring. I guess we can thank this game because after this game came one of the best Call of Duty games ever that helped shape modern FPS games.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
This game has Kevin Spacey and Bruce Campbell and yet it will always be remembered for “Press F To Pay Respects”. It had some great ideas in introducing vertical movement but sadly it was perfectly executed by Titanfall that launched before it which made the exosuit and vertical combat feel bland. The multiplayer was horribly broken with OP weapons and skills that really pissed people off.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
After completely switching it up and taking Call of Duty to space, this game still managed to pretty boring with a lot of people saying that this and Black Ops 3 were very similar games that came out back to back. It just felt like a step in the wrong direction when fans wanted the series to go back to its roots, which seems to be happening now. The multiplayer modes of the game had nothing great to offer besides craftable weapons and the single player story mode was boring and didn’t really hold you like the Modern Warfare titles or Black Ops 1. I’m not saying this game is absolutely horrible, it has some great elements like the really good zombie mode, great visuals, and an interesting sci-fi element but that’s about it. It felt more like a Halo game mashed up with Mass Effect rather than a Call of Duty game.
