These Are The Biggest Upcoming Open World Games

Open games are gaining immense popularity, thanks to titles like The Elder Scrolls, GTA V, The Witcher 3 and many more. This year has seen and will continue to see a lot of great looking open world games, so here is our list of the top 10 upcoming titles, in no particular order.

Horizon: Zero Dawn  

Platform: PS 4

Release Date: 2017

Made by the developers of the Killzone franchise, Horizon: Zero Dawn is a third person action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world, only this time, nature has taken the world back and humanity has seem to gone back to using tools and weapons of old age. There are ruins of long forgotten cities, plush green fields dominated by mechanical creatures which you can either tame or kill. With its fast dynamics, action packed combat and beautiful environments, the game will surely offer an amazing exprience. Horizon: Zero Dawn will be available for the Playstation 4 in 2017.

 

Final Fantasy XV 

Platform: PS4, Xbox One

Release Date: September 30th, 2016

Developed and published by Square Enix, Final Fantasy is an action RPG that is sure to capture some hearts with its stunning visuals, an all new combat system and quite a similar world to ours. The best thing about this game is probably how it combines elements from the real world and the Final Fantasy universe. You can cruise around in a car, stopping occasionally to slay monsters, and listen to soulful music while doing so. Final Fantasy XV is scheduled for release on September 30th, 2016 for the PS4 and the Xbox One.

 

Scalebound

Platform: Xbox One, Windows PC

Release Date: 2017

Scalebound is an action RPG presently in development by Platinum Games, planned for release in 2017. Two things: Ride dragons and slay titan sized monsters! Wait, make that three, considering you can do that with your friends. Hardly seems a fair fight. The monsters look great, and slaying them feels even better.

 

No Man’s Sky

Platform: Windows PC, PS4

Release Date: August 12th, 2016

Few headlines have gone by in recent months without bearing the name No Man’s Sky. Developed by an indie studio called Hello Games, it is an action adventure exploration survival video game with a scale unheard before. No Man’s Sky claims to give you the freedom to explore 18 quitillion planets, maybe even more. The stunning environments are diverse, complete with lifeforms and all procedurally generated. Releasing worldwide for PC and PS 4 this august, it has surely been a long time coming.

 

Star Citizen

Platform: Windows PC, Linux

Release Date: 2016

Made by Cloud Imperium Games, Star Citizen is an upcoming space simulator title coming to the Windows PC and Linux platforms. It aims to merge multiple genres, including space trading and first person shooter elements in an MMO environment. It is supposed to be the sixth most expensive video game to be developed, and said to release sometime in 2016.

 

Mass Effect Andromeda

Platform: Windows PC, Xbox One, PS 4

Release Date: March 2017

Bioware’s beloved Mass Effect franchise is coming back to life with Mass Effect Andromeda, an action role playing third person shooter. The first Mass Effect title to feature a completely open world, the game will be set long after the events of the original trilogy, sharing the same universe, but a completely different story.

 

Dishonoured 2

Platform: PS 4, Xbox One, Windows PC

Release Date: November 11, 2016

Well, this game barely needs any introduction. New features include a bigger story, new abilities, and oh, the ability to play as Emily. Also, no rats (as seen from the showcase)! For people who don’t know about the game, instead of boring you with text, we suggest you play the first game and see how amazing it is for yourself.

 

Mafia 3

Platform: Xbox One, OS 4, Windows PC, Mac OSX

Release Date: October 7th, 2016

Mafia 2’s open world did really give you a lot of options to do, but the authentic settings and feel of the 1940s era left the players awestruck, asking for  more. That is what developers Hangar 13 publisher 2k Games plan to do in Mafia 3. Set in the 1960s in New Orleans during the Vietnam War, the game looks more brutal and picturesque than ever.

 

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Platform: Windows PC, PS 4, Xbox One

Release Date: March 7th, 2017

Developed and published by Ubisoft, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is an upcoming open world tactical shooter. The tenth game in the Tom Clancy franchise, it will be the first in the series to feature an open world environment. Ubisoft claims it is one of the biggest open world games they have ever published. It is set in Bolivia, which has become the biggest producer of cocaine in the world, becoming more and more unstable as the Santa Blanca drug cartel gets more powerful. The game is scheduled to release on March 7th, 2017.

 

Watch Dogs 2

Platform: Windows PC, Xbox One, PS 4

Release Date: November 15th, 2016

Sequel to 2014’s critically acclaimed Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs 2 is an upcoming action adventure third person shooter game developed and published by Ubisoft. Following the events of Chicago, the game is set in San Fransico which is the next city to have the ctOS installed. It follows a new protagonist who was framed for a crime he did not commit, when he was still a child, by the upgraded ctOS system. Realizing that ctOS does more harm than good, he decides to work with the hacking group DedSec to take down the system. Watch Dogs 2 is shceduled for release on November 15, 2016 for the Windows PC, Xbox One and PS 4.
