Should Video Games Allow Players To Skip Boss Fights?

Ubisoft made a fascinating announcement this week. They revealed that the latest Assassin’s Creed [official site] is to add a “Discovery Tour” mode, removing all the combat and challenges from the game, to let players just freely experience their in-depth recreation of Ancient Egypt. It’s fascinating, to me, because it’s a big deal. And goodness me, it shouldn’t be a big deal. Because games should be delighted to include modes that remove all their difficulty and challenge, and players should cheer when they hear about it. So let’s have a noob to noob talk while we’re on the subject (yep, I’m am but a noob when it comes to video games and I’m not quite ashamed of it. I’ll let you know I have a life). Do you remember purchasing a game in high spirits and then abandon...

Review Bombing Is A Problem That Gamers Have Created For Themselves

In the recent news, Steam users have been found out to “Review Bomb”, that is, players posted a lot of negative reviews on Steam to lower a game’s overall review score, on the big titles such as GTA V for banning mods and DOTA 2 because there’s no Half-life 3 Review Bombing is a big issue that must be dealt with extreme delicacy. People criticize a game for reasons that are outside the game altogether. They may criticize an awesome game for it hurt their believes and faith. Other times they may be prompted to do such a thing by their ideals as was the case when famous YouTuber Pewdiepie encouraged his subscribers to leave bad reviews on steam for Firewatch, a delightful game that had earned the respect and faith of many critics and players alike in the past. Yet, one mino...

Are Video Games Ruining The Economy?

All of us here have a deep passion for Video Games. We play them for work, and we play them outside of work. So when someone comes along and tells us that gamers and gaming are ruining the economy, you can understand that we were abundantly pissed. A study conducted by a research team including faculty from Princeton and the University of Chicago claims that with Video Games becoming stronger distractions, more and more young men are choosing to not work, instead spending more time playing games, and hence slowing economic growth. Younger men, ages 21 to 30, exhibited a larger decline in work hours over the last fifteen years than older men or women. Since 2004, time-use data show that younger men distinctly shifted their leisure to video gaming and other recreational computer activities. ...

What Would You Be Doing If Video Games Did Not Exist?

Video games have become an essential part of our lives, and for me personally, it goes way beyond casual entertainment. Apart from being an essential means of unwinding after a long day at work, multiplayer games often help me socialize with friends online. Some online sessions have me in scenarios where team play is essential, and encourages planning and applying complex strategies in order to win. Other have you going at it solo and coming up with quick solutions to sticky situations. [interaction id=”595c9fadf7ddd65e0bcdfe72″] That’s not to say that Video Games are the best thing ever since sliced bread. There are definite detriments to playing games over long periods of time, and can lead to some seriously unhealthy habits. And Video Game addiction is a real thing. Bu...

Awe-inspiring, jaw dropping and absolutely mesmerizing, Transistor is all of that and so much more. A game that genuinely struck a chord with me and impressed me so much that it left me craving for more after I had finished it. And just like Red, I was left speechless with the beauty of it all. Transistor is a sci-fi action RPG game developed and published by Supergiant Games, famous for their previous, critically acclaimed title ‘Bastion’. The game is set in a very cyberpunk futuristic city known as Cloudbank that is run by Administrators to keep the world safe and to satisfy people by letting them decide on things such as the weather c...
