Evolution Studios, the studio behind World Rally Championship, MotorStorm and the recent Playstation 4 exclusive racing game, Driveclub, has shut down as confirmed by Sony. While the game was a bit of a mess at launch, the developers worked hard and turned it into one of the best racing titles on the PS4. They even added a DLC, which brought bikes to the game. Just a year ago, 55 people had been cut from Evolution and today Sony made a hard choice of closing down the Studio itself. To be honest I haven’t played much of Driveclub, but Motorstorm was a memorable part of my life especially the apocalypse edition. Sony released a statement to gamesindustry.biz stating: “Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a c...
Rumors in the gaming world come and go but this specific one catches the eye. As always take this rumor with a pinch of salt as nothing is concrete. The latest rumor suggests that Sony might be working on a new and upgraded version of the PlayStation 4 which would be able to play games on high resolution of 4K. This new PS4 will “supposedly” not only be coming with a better and more powerful GPU, but it would also have more processing power which would help in running games in 4k and in virtual reality, at a higher fidelity. Whether Sony will allow the current PS4 owners to trade in their current consoles is something we still don’t have an idea about. In simple words, 4K resolution is around four times the pixel size of 1080p, which is the current standard for games on P...
Fail0verflow, the hacking group responsible for hacking Wii, Wii U and the Playstation have now revealed what appears to be a hack for the Playstation 4. You can watch the video below which shows the console running off a Linux UI, and then shows it running a modded version of Pokemon Emerald. Fail0verflow has made the PS4 Linux port publicly available on its website. The PlayStation 4 had been hack-free for two years since it’s release, though hints of low-level hacks had been revealed before. The group has hailed the PlayStation 4’s architecture, claiming: “The Marvell engineers who designed the southbridge were smoking some really good stuff.” Could this be the start of next-gen console piracy? Only time will tell. This is what Fail0verflow had to say as far as p...
Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House took to YouTube late Tuesday night to confirm that Hideo Koijma’s first independently produced game will be made as a “collaboration with PlayStation” to launch exclusively on Sony consoles. A Q&A posted on Medium (since taken down, but still available on Google Cache) confirmed that the new Kojima Productions is not a subsidiary of Sony, and that future Kojima Productions games (past the first) won’t necessarily be exclusive to PlayStation. Kojima’s next game, which is being described as “something completely new,” will also come to the PC after its PS4 release. And for more news and reviews, keep checking back at Gaming Central.
From launch day, the Xbox One has been carrying a performance deficit when compared to the PlayStation 4. Hardware choices made during the design stage by Microsoft meant a games console that can’t quite match Sony’s offering. Much has been done in the last two years by Microsoft’s engineers to try and close the gap, but it looks as though Sony is about to unlock more performance and pull further ahead. Both the Xbox One and PS4 use an 8-core AMD processor, but initially two of those cores were reserved in either console for background operations and the operating system to function. In order to close the performance gap Microsoft unlocked more GPU bandwidth and the 7th core on the Xbox One late last year. While this did give developers more performance to use, it meant losing a few featur...
