Epic Games’ co-founder Tim Sweeney is known for openly speaking against Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform, describing it as a “Microsoft-controlled distribution and commerce monopoly”. He clearly is not a fan of what Microsoft may have in store for us with Windows 10. In a recent interview with Edge Magazine, Sweeney has directly targeted his criticisms, saying that future updates in Windows 10 may make third party applications and stores like Steam progressively worse. Here is his official statement: “There are two programming interfaces for Windows and every app has to choose one of them. Every Steam app – every PC game for the past few decades – has used Win32. It’s been both responsible for the vibrant software market we have now, but also for malware. Any progra...

The powerful, smaller counterpart of Xbox One was announced at the E3 conference this year, and it has been confirmed the highly anticipated 2TB Xbox One S launch edition will be available for purchase in select regions starting August 2nd, 2016. Xbox One S is 40% smaller than the original Xbox One, and includes a built-in power supply. It also allows you to watch Blu-ray movies and stream video in stunning 4K Ultra HD with HDR. That means you’ll get to enjoy your favorite shows and movies in the clearest, most realistic video possible. With High Dynamic Range (HDR) support for video and ga...
Microsoft won quite a lot of hearts when they announced the “Xbox Play Anywhere” feature coming to future titles, which would allow the user to play a Microsoft Studio title on both the Xbox One and their Windows 10 PC, while purchasing the game only on one platform. They would get access to the game on the other platform for free. Now, as the original announcement said, “Every upcoming Microsoft Studio title will have the Xbox Play Anywhere feature”. But recently, Microsoft made a stealthy edit to their announcement post, which now says,”Every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere.” Way to be subtle, Microsoft. Now this may some sense from the company’s point of view. If t...
Microsoft boldly announced the Project Scorpio during its E3 conference this year and has the gaming community on their feet to see how this beast of a console will turn out. Confirmed for release in the fall, it will operate at about six teraflops with 8 cores, memory bandwidth of over 320 Gbps and a speculated 12GB of GDDR5 memory. As a result, it is expected to be capable enough to play both 4K-native games and VR titles. Moreover, it will be backwards compatible, meaning you don’t have worry about your old library once you make the switch. But there seems to be a bigger, more ambitious approach at work. In an interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer, the Head of the Xbox division at Microsoft said, “One of the most significant initiatives doesn’t revolve around a single conso...
Most of us can agree that Sony emerged a clear victor at the E3 2016 conference, thanks to their spectacular showcase and amazing titles. Microsoft also had quite a few tricks up their sleeves, but they fell short. BUT. And it’s a big ‘BUT’ (no pun intended). Announcing Project Scorpio along with Xbox One S may not seem like a great idea, BUT they laid all their cards on the table. For someone who does not yet own a console and wants to get into gaming right now, the Xbox One S is not that bad a bet. It provides you the power of Xbox One in a 40% smaller form factor, and it also comes with inbuilt power supply. While the Project Scorpio may turn out to be the most powerful console yet, One S bridges the gap between the past and the future. With 4K support for Blu-ray video, and HDR gaming,...
Microsoft kicked off its E3 press conference this year with the sleeker, slimmer version of the Xbox One – the Xbox One S. Priced at $299 for the 500GB model, the new addition provides the punch given by its predecessor in a smaller form factor with built-in power supply, thereby removing the need for the cumbersome power brick you need for the Xbox One. Check out the Xbox one S in the video below: There was also a lot to offer in terms of video game titles, with independent developers getting special attention. Some of the major titles announced are as follows: Gears of War 4: Microsoft announced the newest addition to the Gears of War franchise, showcasing actual co-op gameplay footage from Gears of War 4, which you can check out on the official Xbox YouTube channel: Forza ...
With Microsoft announcing that Rocket League is getting cross-network play on Xbox One and PC, the tech firm wasn’t content to rest on its laurels. As it happens, on top of the reveal for Psyonix’s sports game being the first title to be available for the Xbox Live’s cross-platform functionality, Microsoft also made it known that the company’s current generation console will be providing native support for cross-platform play between Xbox One, Windows 10, and other “online multiplayer networks,” implying it would be possible for PlayStation 4 to join in as well. Of course, Microsoft didn’t directly call on any particular console like Sony’s or speak specifically to services such as Electronic Arts’ Origin to make the leap, but the Washington-based multinational has definitely made it clear...
