Sony sells a million PS4’s on day one

Sony managed to sell one million Playstation 4s on day one of their sale in North America. As expected, some users reported hardware issues, Sony’s spring off the blocks bodes well for the release of the PS4 in Europe and Latin America, which will take place on the 29th of November. Sony has high hopes that the PS4 will generate enough revenue to make up for its poor fortunes. Things didn’t look too good for the Japanese firm when it went back to a loss in the last quarter as sales of PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, and its profits dipped due to a price decrease on the Playstation Vita. Sony has been giving its rival Microsoft stiff competition as they have managed to price the PS4 $100 cheaper than the $499.99 Xbox One. Sony hope to see this upward traje...

Microsoft gets ready to take on Google Glass

Microsoft is desperately working towards giving Google stiff competition in the augmented reality section by collaborating with partners to create“web-connected eyewear” that would serve as a Google Glass competitor. Rumors are going around that Microsoft is testing prototypes and “has asked several component makers in Asia to supply cameras and other key components for eyewear prototypes.” A few months back, Microsoft tried its hand with other “beyond the television” gaming experiences such as Illumiroom, however the technology was too expensive. But for the time being, the Microsoft eyewear remains a rumor. Other companies like Sony said that they would be testing a headset of its own, and other recent competitors include the soon-to-be-4K Oculus Rift and the CastAR system from ex-Valve ...

Xbox One to run Audio CD Playback and DLNA Streaming

Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One is capable of both playing audio CDs and DLNA streaming, two distinct features which distinguish it from PlayStation 4 and possibly gives it an edge over the neck and neck competition between these two rivals of the gaming world. A Sony FAQ published regarding PlayStation 4 published that the PS4 lacked some music-related functionality — virtually, that it can’t play audio CDs or MP3s and lacks a music visualizer and DLNA support. Feedback from gamers about this issue has caused Sony to start “exploring possibilities” regarding this. These issues brought the Penny Arcade Report to ask Microsoft about whether these features are supported on Xbox One. Microsoft replied saying  Xbox One will offer audio CD playback and DLNA comp...

80 Million Xbox 360 Sold and Counting

Microsoft revealed yesterday that  Xbox 360 has “reached 80 million consoles sold to retailers worldwide” according to its internal data. “Sold to retailers” doesn’t necessarily mean all of these consoles have yet to trickle out to customers, though retailers wouldn’t buy consoles unless there was consumer demand. Microsoft also mentioned that although it was beaten by PlayStation 3 in monthly sales last month, it holds the title of the top-selling console in the US in 2013. 1.6 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in the US this year. On the back of strong Grand Theft Auto V sales, Xbox 360 software amounted to $401.2 million in the US in September, Xbox 360’s strongest September since its launch eight years ago. Xbox 360 launched in the fall of 2005. At 80 million sold, it’s of...

Sony responsible for Elder Scrolls coming out on consoles

According to Sony, the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game The Elder Scrolls Online was not originally made for consoles. VP of publisher and developer relations at SCEA, Adam Boyes told Game Informer  that the a console version of the online game was only brought into the picture after Sony and Bethesda met on various occasions to discuss the idea. “That game was never planned to come to consoles,” Boyes said. “And we just kind of kept sitting with [Bethesda] and being like, ‘Why not?'” “They’re like, ‘We’re not planning it,'” he added. “And I’m like, ‘Well, what if we built a plan that we could do that?'” Sony was the one that kindled this interest that led to Bethesda to consider brin...

Xbox One is designed to be on for 10 years straight

The Xbox One design doesn’t really differ much from its predecessor’s. However Microsoft have really pushed the limits on their latest console, while keeping in mind the very important factor of reliability. A reliable source says that the console has been designed to run continuously for 10 years. And not only that, Microsoft have also kept in mind that while this device is designed to run for 10 years, it also needs to run silently enough, so that it is something one could keep in a living room. Its a hard combination to get right, so Microsoft went with a fairly large design which allows better heat dissipation. Although no official specifications have been declared, the Xbox One is approximately 34x26x8cm, which a considerably larger than the 360. Even though we got a prett...

Battlefield 3 subscribers zooms past 4 million

EA has taken a huge leap forward with its subscribers reaching milestones for both its Battlefield 3 Premium service and its digital distribution platform, Origin. Battlefield 3 Premium subscribers have zoomed past four million in total, up from the 2.9 million subscribers reported in January. As of January, EA secured $108 million in revenue from the shooter’s content service, though no update on that figure is available in the latest financial report. Over 50 million users have registered accounts on Origin, an increase of over 20 million users since October of last year. EA’s DRM and content delivery service was introduced in June of 2011 and, according to comments from EA VP Andrew Wilson earlier this year, is currently shifting away from a means of driving transactions int...

Xbox One takes a U-Turn

Microsoft has budged to the demands of gamers and the negative press finally!!! Microsoft has changed its policies regarding Xbox One’s internet requirements, used game restrictions and more. Contrary to the details announced earlier this month, Microsoft has now confirmed news originally reported on Giant Bomb that Xbox One will not require an internet connection to play offline games or need to check in every 24 hours; instead, internet will only be required when initially setting up the console. “After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again,” Microsoft wrote. “There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360....

Titanfall gameplay preview

This year’s E3 gaming expo has made one thing clear… it’s that we’ve got some serious first person shooters in the pipeline. Titanfall looks to be one such title. In the same year as Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim gets a theatrical release, Titanfall certainly has its finger on the mecha-robot trend’s pulse. Play as a futuristic pilot shooter or gear up and dive into a giant mechanized suit known as a Titan. But you needn’t make that decision at the beginning of the game the  focus has been on seamless integration between one and the other during play. That’s Titanfall’s hook. As a pilot there are certain routes through levels or access points not reachable when suited up, while the inclusion of a jetpack gives plenty of wall-bouncing...
