Havok the physics engine behind Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn has been acquired by Microsoft. Is it a problem for Sony? I don’t think so, as Microsoft has announced in a statement that they will continue to license the technology out to anyone and everyone that wants to use it. This is a positive move for the engine, as Microsoft does suggest that it hopes that the acquisition will further strengthen its cloud-based computing services, which they are starting to see the fruits of from a gaming persuasion in Crackdown 3.
Havok has been used in many games, such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Just Cause, Medal of Honor, Portal and many more.
And in the coming future if Microsoft does want to license the technology then it is highly unlikely that they would deny Sony, as rival companies will be willing to shake hands where there’s money to be made.
