When the Xbox One was announced originally, people were skeptical if it was more powerful than the PS4. Turns out it was not as powerful as the PS4 which led to a lot of criticism towards Microsoft and Xbox. Then came the PS4 Pro and people bashed Microsoft even more. Sony even upped their exclusives’ game in the meantime which led to the rise of PlayStation’s popularity which left people wondering if Microsoft would step up their game and if so then how? We heard rumours about Project Scorpio for a long time, every couple of months we would get new information but nothing substantial about it. Then they revealed that Scorpio would run games at 4k and people were skeptical but still intrigued by the idea of it. Now, we finally have it officially announced, with the specs and games to show its power.
The Xbox One X has 12GB GDDR5 RAM, a CPU that has eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and Integrated AMD graphics with 6 teraflops of performance means that it can run at 4k and 60fps. But that doesn’t mean all titles, the only game we know so far that can do that is Forza Motorsport 7 and that looks and runs like a dream. But let that sink in, 4k at 60fps albeit it won’t be true 4k but it’s not checkerboarding either and with some setbacks in quality, it is possible on this console. The PS4 Pro can only do “faux”k that too at 30fps. Along with that, games will get updates for the Xbox One X . The Xbox One X will play games at Full HD too, and you’ll get the choice as to whether you want to downscale from Ultra HD resolution for ultra-sharp graphics, or simply run games at 1080p for better performance, something that isn’t easily accessible on the PS4 Pro. The One X also supports UHD Blu-Ray along with Dolby Atmos while the PS4 just has HD Blu-Ray support.
Another thing that the Xbox One X will have is exclusive games, now they aren’t as many as Sony’s nor are they big AAA games but this is Microsoft making a comeback. With Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, Forza Motorsport 7, State of Decay 2, Ashen, Black Desert and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to start things off, the future looks pretty bright for Microsoft. Xbox also supports backward compatibility while Sony has stated that they won’t because according to them that’s not what players want. A lot of the Xbox 360 titles are now playable on the Xbox One which includes Red Dead Redemption, a game that a lot of gamers really, really love. Along with that, they announced that the original Xbox titles would also come to the Xbox One with Crimson Skies being one of the first titles to support backward compatibility.
The pricing very well could be the deciding factor since the One X is the outright better one in terms of specs but is also more expensive price wise as it launches at $499 while the PS4 Pro is for $399.
