Top 10 Best Upcoming JRPGs Of 2018

The JRPGs have always presented a unique world, story and feel. They often set the milestone for other games in varied terms. And best of all, they feature anime tiddies. I guess I’ve provided you with enough reasons to look forward to the upcoming JRPGs of 2018.  

  1. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom – PS4, PC – Jan. 19

Ni No Kuni was a one of a kind game which was a result of the collaboration between the talented developers of Level 5 and the legendary anime studio; Ghibli. The game borrowed its art style and gameplay from Ghibli, making it one of the JRPG ever.

Ni No Kuni II takes place hundreds of years after the first and tells the story of Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, a young boy of the cat tribe who’s forced out of his kingdom by usurpers. Together with new friends and supporters, you’ll need to take things back and rebuild your kingdom step by step.

  1. LOST SPHEAR – PS4, PC, SWITCH – JAN. 23

Square Enix’s new studio, Tokyo RPG factory, released their first title with I Am Setsuna in 2016. The title was a throwback to the nostalgic JRPGs of the ’90s, with a turn-based combat system.

Building upon the roots of ‘I Am Setsuna’ comes Lost Sphear which retains many of the elements that I Am Setsuna had and still keeps the focus on emotional storytelling.

  1. MONSTER HUNTER WORLD – PS4, XBOX ONE – JAN. 26

The Monster Hunter series is gaining popularity day by day and the franchise will witness the release of its biggest game; Monster Hunter World.

The game can be played entirely in single-player or with up to three other friends in co-op. Monster Hunter World promises a huge and expansive experience.

  1. RADIANT HISTORIA: PERFECT CHRONOLOGY – 3DS – FEB. 13

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is an enhanced remake of the original Radiant Historia on Nintendo DS.

Radiant Historia features a story packed with political intrigue, lovable well-rounded characters, and a mind-bending time travel story that has you playing as Stocke, an espionage agent for the country of Alistel.

  1. CODE VEIN – PS4, XBOX ONE, PC – TBA 2018

CODE VEIN, from Bandai Namco, is single-player JRPG whose gameplay is much like the loved Souls Series.

You play as a Revenant, a vampiric soldier, who’s part of a society called Vein, who works to stop The Lost, fiendish ghouls who only crave blood.

  1. PROJECT OCTOPATH TRAVELER – SWITCH – TBA 2018

PROJECT OCTOPATH TRAVELER is a unique switch exclusive from Square Enix. It is a reflection of the much loved90s styled JRPGs. The game’s demo was very well received when it released this fall.

  1. DRAGON QUEST XI: ECHOES OF AN ELUSIVE AGE – SYSTEMS TBA – TBA 2018

Dragon Quest is one of the longest-running RPG series around. Not much is revealed about Echoes of an Elusive Age, but you can expect a huge world and story to explore filled with plenty of quirky characters and colourful monsters.

  1. KINGDOM HEARTS III – PS4, XBOX ONE – TBA 2018

Kingdom Hearts III is one of the most awaited games of 2018 as it will continue the complex and elusive story of the Kingdom Hearts universe.

What makes Kingdom Hearts unique is the incorporation of the Disney world. We already know that Tangled, Big Hero 6, Hercules, and Toy Story will be featured among several others.

  1. POKEMON SWITCH – SWITCH – TBA 2018

2018 seems to be a great year for the switch as it will witness a full-fledged exclusive mainline Pokemon game. Not much is known about it at the moment, but Nintendo has confirmed it will be a “find, battle, and train” experience.

  1. VALKYRIA CHRONICLES 4 – PS4, XBOX ONE, SWITCH – TBA 2018

Valkyria Chronicles 4 actually takes place during the same time period as the very first game but focuses on a new cast of characters taking part in Operation Northern Cross. The title promises to use the series’ traditional combat system while introducing the Grenadier class and a few overall tweaks to the experience. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is supposed to feel more grounded and realistic than even other titles in the series, and the announcement trailer boldly claimed it to be the most emotional game in the series.
