Every year there are games that we are all hyped up and eagerly waiting for, and every year some of the drop the ball. So here are the top 10 most disappointing games of 2017. These aren’t necessarily bad games, these are just game we expected better from. Mass Effect Andromeda This one is probably the most obvious pick. To be honest, I did enjoy Mass Effect: Andromeda’s combat and exploration a lot. However, I was really hyped for this game, especially because I absolutely loved the original trilogy. Andromeda, sadly, never reaches the same heights. Star Wars Battlefront 2 At it’s core, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is an enjoyable game. It’s just so disappointing to see how badly EA screwed this over with their insatiable greed. As a shooter, it’s probably one of...

The year 2017 has had some amazing releases like Yakuza Zero, Resident Evil 7, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, like every year there are games that we were looking forward to that failed to live up to our expectations and some outright horrible games. Here’s a look at some of the disappointing games of 2017: Mass Effect Andromeda Ever Since the disaster that was the ending of Mass Effect 3, people were looking for answers. Then the next Mass Effect game was announced which was to be set in another galaxy, during the events of Mass Effect 2, away from the Reapers. Some were happy, while others were sad. Slowly we got more information and hopes began to grow for this game, with a new engine and better technology, the expectations ...
Yooka-Laylee’s Kickstarter campaign was a rousing success. Surpassing its initial funding goal of £175,000 in a matter of mere 40 minutes, the game promised to bring the classic 3D platforming of the Nintendo 64 era back to life. Developer Playtonic has stood by their promises, with cute cartoon-ish visuals, quirky characters and a vibrant, colourful world. At its best, the game is a testament to the legacy of titles like Banjo Kazooie which I’m sure a lot of us still remember fondly. It’s fun and enthusiastic and constantly makes fun of itself in a charmingly silly way. You play as the heroic lizard, Yooka and her trusty but sarcastic bat partner Laylee. Yooka mostly does the physical work, like running and jumping and rolling, while Laylee helps in gliding and has a son...
Playtonic Games have been humbled by the support behind their Kickstarter campaign for Yooka-Laylee, touted as a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. But even they were surprised to have smashed their initial £175,000 funding goal so quickly. It only took 40 minutes to surpass it, an achievement that has seen the crowdfunding website confirm that it has become the “Most Funded UK campaign ever for a video game.” It not only eclipsed Frontier Developments’ Elite: Dangerous, but can also claim to be the fastest game project to have reached $1 million. That was accomplished in 5 hours and 41 minutes, which has only been outpaced by four other projects. “The response to Yooka-Laylee has been incredible and from all of us here at Playtonic, we really want to say a huge, warm ‘thank you’ to eve...
