Valve Sends C&D Notice to Gambling Sites

Valve has started taking actions against the numerous skin/cosmetics betting sites, in the wake of the recent CS:GO betting scandal, where two YouTubers were streaming their own betting process on one such site, while withholding the fact that they owned the site themselves, which led to speculation that these bets were somehow rigged in their favour. Further investigation in this case revealed it to be true. Valve had been getting heat in the recent past when one Counter Strike: Global Offensive player sued the company, allegedly blaming them for profiting from global gambling marketplace. Valve had been accused of allowing an “illegal online gambling” platform to sustain and propagate around the popular game. As the lawsuit says, “Valve Corporation knowingly allowed ...

Virtual Reality mode added to latest Steam beta

Valve is slowly getting very comfortable with the idea of having a huge video screen being mounted to its face, as it was announced that the beta client of Steam is to add a “virtual reality mode” option. The latest beta version of Steam does away with the “-vr” command line option and replaces it with a button in the view menu, which only appears for those with SteamVR installed when a head-mounted display like the Oculus Rift is detected. Virtual reality is really gaining a lot of attention and is probably going to be the next big thing in gaming. Over the year even Valve has realized this and have made virtual reality their focal point as its former head of VR joined Oculus VR’s new Seattle team around a week ago. People at Engadget think that this week, th...

Steam’s latest Controller prototype

Valve have revealed a new image of their latest version of its Steam Controller prototype. It still remains quite similar to the version that originally came out in September. But what’s new is the two diamond-patterned button layout added to the slot initially reserved for a touch-screen display. Let us know how you find the controller and join the debate in our forum on this thread. This doesn’t mean that the Steam Controller has lost its touch functionality. The new analog buttons now add to the controller’s two touch pads. How the new button layout affects ease of use remains to be seen. Source:  Eddie Makuch

It’s official: iBuyPower’s Steam Machine at $499

So only in a couple of days from now will be seeing an explosion of Steam machine news coming from CES in Las Vegas. Even though we already know a lot about it, what still remains unclear is who will plan to sell their own Steam Machines and for what price. We presume iBuyPower should be one of the top contenders. They plan to make a Steam Machine around the size of a PS4, and just a bit smaller than an Xbox One, which will include a multi-core AMD Cpu, 500GB hard drive , WiFi, Bluetooth, and an AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card.       That card alone will set you back $180. If everything pans out then you can get these specifications for about $499 which could pose a major threat to Xbox One sales.

Valve reveal specs for prototype Steam Box

Valve Software has revealed that they plan to ship about 300 prototype Steam Box machines to eager testers by the end of this year. This morning the company revealed the hardware to be included within these computers: The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components: GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660 CPU: some boxes with Intel : i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3 RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB DDR5 (GPU) Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high Instead of shipping a standard top-of-the-line technology to each tester, Valve has decided to ship a variety of configurations. This is a much smarter option, we think, as it will give a a more accurate view of how the S...

Valve Unleashes the Steam Controller

Valve came out with the final announcement of the week, with the Steam Controller. They seem to be set out with a singular goal: to bring the Steam experience, in its entirety, into the living-room. Here are the few brief highlights of the controller. Complete catalog The Steam Controller is designed to work with all the games on Steam: past, present, and future. Even the older titles in the catalog and the ones which were not built with controller support will can be played using this new controller. Superior performance Traditional gamepads force us to accept compromises. With a goal to improve upon the resolution and fidelity of input that’s possible with those devices, the Steam controller offers a new and, we believe, vastly superior control scheme. Steam claims the controller is just...

Valve develops its own Game Controller too

Yesterday morning, Valve revealed the first steps of its plan to marry the new SteamOS to custom hardware. According to the Steam Machines Beta Test Agreement, Valve has developed a game controller. Speculation has been abundant about the third of Valve’s announcements, which is scheduled for reveal on Friday at 1 PM Eastern. “Valve Corporation (“Valve”, “We”, “Us” or “Our”) has developed and produced prototypes of entertainment system hardware and software, including a set-top box running custom software and a game controller (collectively: “Beta Products”),” the agreement states. Whether Valve intends to release this controller to market or has simply created it for the purposes of testing is unclear. Our Take ...

4 Kickass features of Steam OS

A long countdown to a three-tiered announcement, Valve has finally rolled out phase one of its plan to take over your living room with SteamOS. What many thought was going to be a Steam Box console is for now a Steam platform, one that will be available for hardware manufacturers to implement at will. Perhaps not surprisingly, the immediate focus is on gaming. Why the need for SteamOS? Valve honcho Gabe Newell has long been saber-rattling in Windows 8’s general direction, advocating instead for a Linux-based solution. Valve is wary of a Windows 8 that might threaten to supplant Steam as The Place To Go For Games. SteamOS will also focus on (naturally) graphics processing efficiencies, with access to the full 3000+ strong Steam catalog, and several top titles available—at some point—n...
