Sony sells a million PS4’s on day one
Sony managed to sell one million Playstation 4s on day one of their sale in North America. As expected, some users reported hardware issues, Sony’s spring off the blocks bodes well for the release of the PS4 in Europe and Latin America, which will take place on the 29th of November. Sony has high hopes that the PS4 will generate enough revenue to make up for its poor fortunes. Things didn’t look too good for the Japanese firm when it went back to a loss in the last quarter as sales of PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, and its profits dipped due to a price decrease on the Playstation Vita. This has been an incredible week for Naughty Dog as they had two major reveals The first teaser trailer is for The Last of Us: Left Behind, a single-player DLC campaign coming early next year. 3D Blu-Rays not supported by PS4 at launch
As strange as this sounds, the PS4 is most like to not support playback of 3D Blu-rays, according to the online user guide (spotted by TheSixthAxis). Even though DVDs and Blu-rays are fully supported and CD support is to be put into the system, the “Playing video on disc” section of the User Guide says that 3D Blu-rays are not supported. Weirdly enough, the PS3 plays 3D Blu-rays without any issues, which makes this even more strange. Sony has left 3D by the wayside in the past two years, having attempted to push it hard in the middle years of PS3’s lifespan. This would appear to be another nail in its coffin. PS4 gets some exclusive features for Diablo 3
Blizzard Entertainment confirmed at BlizzCon this weekend that Diablo III will now have some exclusive features on PlayStation 4 and will run in 1080p at 60fps. Senior level designer Matthew Berger explains these features in detail. Firstly, Diablo III on PS4 will be known now as the Ultimate Evil Edition. Plus it will include the Reaper of Souls expansion and DualShock 4 touchpad integration. The game will employ the touchpad ‘when it feels the need to’. Gamers can use the touchpad for inventory management and to access the Skills user interface. Also, users will be able to swipe left or swipe right on the pad to move up or down a category. Ghosts is 720p on Xbox One, 1080p on PS4
Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin yesterday cleared a rumor about the comparative resolutions for Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. He did so on Twitter, by confirming the game is native 720p on Xbox One (upscaled to 1080p), while the PS4 version is native 1080p. “Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. Photos On How to Replace the PS4 Hard Drive
Sony had confirmed at E3 that the PlayStation 4 would give owners the option to remove and upgrade the built-in hard drive, and now they’ve shown us how. PC enthusiast websiteComputer Bild has put up detailed photos of the PS4’s removable housing and HDD tray. According to the post, it seems like the hard drive is placed underneath the glossy exterior panel on top of the device which can be removed via torx screwdriver. Like the PS3, the system uses a 2.5″ laptop hard drive, which should enable users to upgrade the system with a solid state drive, provided they’re willing to go through the trouble and incur the expense. ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ Ultimate Edition Revealed
Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, was announced by Warner Bros. early this week. The Ultimate Edition contains the original game along with all DLCs. This Edition as of now, is only scheduled for release on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 4 on November 12 in North America and November 29 in Europe. Sadly there is nothing about it being released on the Xbox One. The game will cost £49.99 / $59.99 on PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360, £29.99 / $49.99 on PC and £29.99 / $39.99 on Vita. Performance anxiety for PS4 and Xbox One ?
With the upcoming next generation of consoles, PlayStation 4 is currently around 50 per cent faster than its rival Xbox One. Multiple high-level game development sources have described the difference in performance between the consoles as “significant” and “obvious.” It is reported that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. PlayStation games may one day stream directly to PC’s Smart TV’s and even smartphones. Once this phenomenon becomes reality, PlayStation will be seen as more of a service rather than just a mere line of consoles. SCE Worldwide Studios head, Shuhei Yoshida said that the rollout of Gaikai’s cloud services on PlayStation 4 next year is only the start of what the company hopes to achieve, in an interview with Dengeki Online. “Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices,” he said. “So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets. This is what Metal Gear Solid 5 gameplay looks like
Konami did a live demo of a Metal Gear Solid 5 mission at TGS (not a real mission, but it does take place in a real game location), running on PS4 and showing off the Fox Engine’s ability to render sunlight. Check the video. MGS: Ground Zeroes has also received a quartet of screens, care of Konami. They show Snake running around a military base.
