China calls back ban on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U temporarily
Now Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo can all breathe a sigh of relief after China announced it has temporarily lifted its long-term ban on foreign video game consoles, allowing products like the PS4, Xbox One and the Wii U to take a dip into the economy of a potentially massive market. The part that will most likely freak you’ll out is that this ban had been in effect for the past 14 years! PS4 outsells Xbox One in UK by a decent margin
To some it may come to as a shock, but Sony’s PS4 outsold the Xbox One by almost 166,000 units in the UK during 2013. According to Chart-Track data obtained by the Entertainment Retailers Association, the PS4 sold 530,000 units throughout the region, while the Xbox One only managed to sell around 364,000 units. Another interesting stat is that the Next-gen consoles have earned a combined £326m at UK retail, with PS4 hardware generating £181.8m, and Xbox One earning £144.5m. Microsoft is believed to have sold more than 2 million units around the world, selling 111,111 units per day since making its debut on November 22. PS4, GTA 5 were most searched in Google under gaming for 2013
It may not come as a surprise to many of us that this year the PlayStation 4 and Grand Theft Auto V were the top gaming-themed Google searches for 2013 in America, according to the company’s annual Zeitgeist report which was released earlier this week. GTA V took the number one spot for the most searches in the the Video Games category, while the PS4 took the top spot in the Tech Gadgets sector, beating Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S. The Xbox One was the fourth biggest trending search for Consumer Electronics on a worldwide basis, but was not featured in any United States-specific lists. Minecraft sells 13 million copies for PC
The PC/Mac version of Minecraft has now officially sold more than 13 million copies as of the 13th of this month. The game is for $26.95 per copy, but certain alpha and beta versions were for less, therefore calculating the precise lifetime revenue isn’t possible. They had sold over 12 million copies in the beginning of September and had sold around 11 million copies at the end of June. Writing on Twitter, creator Markus Persson said, “The original version of Minecraft has now passed 13 million copies sold. Official statement: whoa.” Minecraft is available too on other platforms. Elder Scrolls Online Xbox One and PS4 release date to come out two months after PC
The Elder Scrolls, an upcoming MMO will come out for PC and Mac gamers on the 4th of April 2014, Bethesda had announced. The Elder Scrolls Online will surely make its way to the next gen consoles, however only sometime in June, the company said. “Other news with that announcement was that Bethesda released a new trailer for the upcoming subscription-based game, highlighting the conflict between The Elder Scrolls Online’s three factions and the massive PvP battles that follow.” Source: Martin Gaston

Despite being expectedly awful, the VGX awards did at least herald a new stampeded of gaming trailers and announcements. At the head of that pack was No Man’s Sky, which charged through the wilderness on the back of a procedurally generated spaceship. Telltale confidently filled out the herd with two new additions to their family: Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands. But by far the prettiest beast on show was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. PS4 half a million ahead of Xbox One
PlayStation 4 is estimated to have sold around 1.25 million units in the US during November – around half a million more units than the Xbox One, according to predictions made by Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. “We expect hardware sales of 1.25 million PS4 units and 750,000 Xbox One units in their debut month,” reads Wedbush’s November 2013 NPD Preview report. PS4 launched in the US on November 15 and achieved global sales of 2.1m by December 1, with 700,000 said to have been sold outside of North America. Sony reveal PS4 owners have captured 6.5 million “Shares”
The PlayStation 4’s new “Share” button is not as useless as many imagined. Sony revealed yesterday that users have captured more than 6.5 million “Shares” since launch on November 15. “That’s pretty amazing,” said Sony (and so are we) The ‘Share’ button on the DualShock 4 has the sole purpose of allowing users to capture and share screenshots and recorded gameplay videos through Facebook and Twitter, or live streams via Ustream and Twitch. Rivals Microsoft too featured similar functionality in their console. The Xbox One does it through its Upload Studio, which allows gamers to capture, edit, and share screenshots and video clips. NVIDIA considers PC a “far superior” gaming platform than the PS4 and Xbox One
PC hardware manufacturer Nvidia are of the opinion that the PC is “far superior” to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as a gaming platform, and that small form-factor PCs should be a viable alternative or option to next-gen consoles. “We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC,” said Matt Wright, Nvidia consumer sales manager.
