Activision just revealed that it sold more than $500 million worth of Destiny to retail stores and first party companies – lest we forget the game has only been out for two days. And this has got to be more than good news for the company as it cost them about $500 million to make the damn game. You should probably keep in mind that this figure doesn’t reflect how many copies of the game have been sold to customers. We’ll get an estimate of how many are actually playing the game in the near future. But Activision says that early indications are promising, so there are fewer reasons to think otherwise. “Since the beginning, we’ve been confident that our investment and belief in Destiny would pay off,” said Activision’s CEO Eric Hirshberg in a statement. “But no...
You’ll have to wait until next week to actually play Destiny, but you can start exploring the sci-fi universe right now. A new site called Destiny Planet View — built using the same tech as Google’s ubiquitous Street View feature — lets you check out the three off-Earth locations in the game, including the Moon, Mars, and the lush jungles of Venus. It’s probably the only way to explore without worrying about incoming headshots. Source: Verge
Last week Warframe developer Digital Extremes had a couple of its armored space soldiers take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in addition to the studio donating $10K to ALS research. It concluded its act by nominating three other video game characters to take the plunge: Halo’s Master Chief, Borderlands’ Claptrap, and Destiny’s Ghost. The first two have yet to step up, but Bungie created the following video of a wizard launching an ice bucket at Ghost all the way from the moon. Additionally, several Bungie staffers are donating to the cause and 20 per cent of all proceeds from the Bungie Store between now and 9th September will go to the ALS Association to fund research for a cure to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, aka Lou Gerhig’s Disease. Bungie ended its video with t...
Bungies latest game in the making, Destiny has already had its fair share of hype to its name, as well as it should. The hype didn’t reach its potential peak as it was said that the game would be console exclusive. But now that doesn’t remain true, and we’re excited all over again. “Internally, Bungie feels the current console beta version of Destiny was considered more of an Alpha. The console release will be called beta .9 and devs feel a PC release will really be a 1.0 . Plans are to have all bugs removed and sorted out for a March 2015 release. Destiny will be released under publisher Activision and will be available on Steam! The games release will support 1080p / 60 and a future update will enable 2k/4k resolutions.” What we just understood: Activision now taking ov...
Activision is going out on a limb her by making a rather large bet on Destiny. And according to one analyst the game is likely to pay off something around 10-15 million copies which roughly translates into $600 to $900 million. Other games that have done well in this regard are Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii, which has sold more than 45.5 million copies till date and of course Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto has, mind you shipped, not sold 33 million copies till date. A report by Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz mentioned that Destiny could become the best-selling game of 2014. Their projection is based on how many copies a game will sell based on the number of pre-orders and data from Amazon and NPD Group’s reports on physical game sales. According to Creutz, Destiny has the...
Upcoming game, Destiny by Bungie is one of the few AAA games that will be scheduled to run at 1080p/30fps on both of the next gen consoles. The recent June Xbox One SDK updated helped Bungie to bump up the resolution of the Xbox One version to 1080p. But why did Bungie did not targeted 60fps? “It’s a lot of different things,” explains Jason Sussman who is the senior environment artist at Bungie. “I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re ...

MoreConsole come up with a new video that gives us details about the game modes which will be available in Destiny. With the help of the Director, Destiny’s in-game navigation system, you can switch between various game modes. Patrol, which is the first mode allows open-ended free roam missions for players who just want to take in the sites and explore Destiny’s numerous environments. It’s completely undirected and you can do as little or as much as you like. Bounty, the second mode, is in many ways similar to a traditional MMO’s ‘raid’ mode and successful raids can yield rewards such as weapons, armour, and other items. Strike is more of a cooperative game mode, which is structured, progressive, and cooperative proves to be ideal for people looking for ...
There should be a stage in every product where the ludicrous is thought possible, where the team blazes trails right to the edge of the abyss in a hundred directions. Only through great risks are great things truly achieved. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny will be released on September 9, 2014. We said...
