Sony’s 20th Anniversary Edition PS4

To mark their 20th anniversary for PlayStation, Sony has revealed a new custom PS4, which is designed with an original PSOne finish.

The console can be preordered from the US and Europe for $499 and €499. But there are only 12,300 of these bad boys around the world.

They’ve basically taken their latest console and given it a PlayStation look which was what started their venture in gaming. Packaged in a special commemorative box, the custom PS4 is brilliant with a familiar silver/grey finish. The DualShock 4 controller also went through a similar overhaul and sees the return of the original PlayStation logo. If you look at the touch pad you’ll notice that there is a pattern on it which makes it very cool indeed.

Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony’s game studio division published a note on the PlayStation Blog, saying: “Sony Computer Entertainment, founded by my mentor Ken Kutaragi, was a project borne out of sincere passion and deep admiration for the craft of game development.”

Yoshida continued: “The mid ’90s were an exciting time for game developers, driven by the explosion of powerful but affordable 3D graphics rendering hardware and the birth of many young and adventurous development studios. The original PlayStation was meant to embody that sense of adventure and discovery, that sense that anything was possible.”
