Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Expansion Coming in 2017

Square Enix has announced that the Stormblood expansion for Final Fantasy XIV  will be releasing in June.

The news was announced at the end of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo, where Japanese fans of the MMO had gathered to celebrate the game’s ongoing success.

The developers have announced the release date as 20th June, though they were quick to point out that it wasn’t absolute. However, pre-orders will start from 24th January. Additionally, a Collector’s Edition has been revealed, which includes artwork from classic Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano, a figurine, a cloth map and so on. That’ll be available for both PC and PS4, while a digital collector’s edition will also be available and instead includes in-game equippable items.

Here are some of the major upcoming additions to the game.

Red Mage Character Class

The Red Mage fighting style mixes both black and white magic for a unique style – and uses the iconic Red Mage gear that was established in previous Final Fantasy games.

Swimming and New Bosses

The previous Final Fantasy XIV expansion introduced flying mechanics. Stormblood will take that one step further, adding the ability to swim, allowing players to flap about in water bodies, even dive underwater.

In addition to swimming some other new features were talked about including a new Beast Tribe in the Ananta and a new Primal Lakshmi, new bosses such as Omega and a new Ivalice-themed Alliance Raid.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is scheduled to release for the Windows PC and the PlayStation 4 on 20th June, 2017.
