Beyond Two Souls – Review

Beyond Two Souls is a complicated game. It’s made by Quantic Dream, known for Heavy Rain, and tells the tale of a young girl with a ghost buddy, who she can control at times. This essentially gives her super powers, and the story sees her growing up in an abnormal environment. Such power obviously draws the eyes of government agencies, and her upbringing is mostly in their presence and under their influence. She soon sees herself embroiled in global politics, and this affects her everyday relationships. It’s an interesting story, that doesn’t always hold up, but is worth seeing through regardless. Beyond Two Souls is an incredible looking game – the facial capture is top notch and the overall graphics are really sharp. If you like choice driven games, and are familiar with Quantic Dr...

Wildland – Review

Wildland is post apocalyptic survival game with an interesting twist – instead of going about on foot, you are driving an SUV across a harsh wasteland. You come across people whom you can help, and you need to get resources in order to keep yourself going. It’s not an intense game, in fact, for the post apocalypse, it can be pretty laid back, and that’s a great change of pace. Driving is fun, and you are free to go wherever you want. The game also looks great, with fantastic weather effects. Overall, a fun game to chill out with, and enjoy the atmosphere. Pros: Laid back post apocalyptic setting Looks great Open world is fun to explore Cons: Not a lot of variety Simplistic quest design Score – 7/10 About: Welcome to the Last Commune! The wild land, which never recovered after t...

Metal Wolf XD Chaos – Review

Metal Wolf XD Chaos is a Third Person Shooter game originally released in 2004. The released version does carry the weight of the game originally belonging to a different era in gaming, with it’s over dramatic story sequences, to slow controls and ancient game menus.  You play the president of America, Michael Wilson, who must take back control of the government from his vice president who has staged a coup. The game is pretty much meant to be a parody, evident from it’s cringe worthy dialogues and general lack of seriousness. There is barely any significant upgrade one will see in the game, only the visuals have been turned HD, but other than that there is not much that is different. The game does offer a great mindless shooting experience even while using a difficult to control mech and ...

Killsquad – Review

Killsquad is an Action RPG that focuses more on the action and bombast side of things. The combat is super flashy and has a good initial hook that makes it easy to get into. You can play the game solo or in co-op, and in my opinion, co-op is where this game is the most fun. There are four classes to pick from, each with its own skill tree. Locations in the game are planets which are randomly generated, and hence makes the game highly replayable. The game is still in early access, so there are a few bugs and the game still needs more content. Pros: Looks great Excellent gameplay loop Class and skill system is cool Cons: Bugs Lacks content Score – 7.5/10 About: This is not the future you dreamt of. The Galaxy is in chaos, planets go rogue, and mega-corporations assemble Killsquads to r...

Redeemer – Review

Redeemer is an over the top action brawler where you play as a monk, who has come under attack. It’s pretty simplistic in it’s combat, but everything feels really tight and fluid. Kicks and punches easily flow into combos, and you can pick up items off the ground and bash enemies with it. You can also interact with the environment and pull off some really gory yet spectacular finishing moves, and it’s really satisfying overall. You are always encouraged to stay on the move, mixing it up between dodges and punches. Redeemer is also quite a looker, with some really flashy visuals and slow motion effects. Overall, really fun, especially in co-op! Pros: Mindless fun Looks great Tight combat Cons: Dull story Lacks depth Score – 7/10 About: REDEEMER is an intense Brawler where you will pun...

Arma 3 Contact – Review

Arma 3 has always reveled in realistic military simulations, and when they announced that they were doing a standalone expansion with an alien setting, I was immediately intrigued. I expected them to not break their realistic approach and combat scenarios, and they completely deliver. Arma 3 Contact tells the tale of mankind’s first encounter with an alien species, and it’s fun, intense and really thoughtful. Without spoiling the story, which is actually good, I’ll just say that it’s not a run of the mill alien shooter. Instead, premise is setup properly and suspense is built up accordingly. It’s a really interesting take on first contact, and the process of understanding and learning from it. There’s combat, and the new terrain and weapons are a welcome change. There’s also a good bit of ...

Heavy Rain – Review

I originally played Heavy Rain on the PS3, and remembered kinda liking it, despite some issues with both the story and the gameplay. Heavy Rain was unique, and it looked amazing. And the gameplay was novel. Playing it on PC, immediately takes me back. And it’s still kinda good. I am unable to give an open recommendation, because Heavy Rain is not for everyone. You need to be into this kind of game to like it. You play as multiple characters, looking into a kidnapping. It’s a dark tale, and the atmosphere is really well done. It still looks fantastic on PC and if you want an entertaining story, despite some cliched moments, Heavy Rain is completely worth your time. Pros: Great atmosphere Looks good Interesting and choice and consequence driven gameplay Cons: Not for everyone Score – 7...

Morphies Law – Review

Morphies Law is an immensely fun multiplayer shooter with a neat little twist – when you shoot an enemy, the body part that gets hit shrinks for them and gets enlarged for you. Good at taking headshots? Well, now enemy heads are smaller and your head is a lot bigger. Dominating the battlefield? Now you’re a giant, and a lot easier to hit, while all the enemies are tiny. Everything can get really disproportionate, depending on where you or the enemies are getting hit, and it’s ridiculous fun. There’s a ton of customization, both for you and the weapons, and I came to really dig the depth here, especially since everything is so vibrant and colorful. Your body parts also have abilities, and their size can change the strength of the respective abilities. For example, if you shoot the ene...

Wolfenstein Youngblood – Review

Wolfenstein Youngblood is the latest entry in the Wolfenstein series, and puts you in the shoes of Blazkowicz’s twin daughters. The game is set 20 years after the events of Wolfenstein 2, in a fictional future where Blazkowicz has killed Hitler and then gone missing. The sisters, Jessica and Sophia set out to Paris in search of their father, where some Nazi presence still prevails. The story is not as good as the previous two games in the series, but the gameplay is immensely satisfying and the banter between the twins is really fun to listen to. The enemies themselves are fairly varied and the encounters are well designed. The city itself is more open with various nooks and corners to explore. There’s a semi open world approach being tested here, which may mean that Wolfenstein 3 might en...

Underworld Ascendant – Review

Despite some bugs and issues, Underworld Ascendant is a gem of a game, and the passion behind it is seen clearly. You start off in a prison like dungeon, and need to make your way through, interacting with the highly systems driven mechanics. It’s these interactions, and the clever puzzles solving that really makes the game shine. While the level design is clever, it’s all pretty dark and starts to look the same really fast. Same cane be said for the enemies as well, who lack much variety. Underworld Ascendant is a game with a lot of heart and potential, but it doesn;t come together as a great product. Pros: You can approach situations in a variety of ways Good level design Lots of interacting systems Cons: Buggy and frustrating Repetitive Looks bland Score – 6/10 About: From the cre...

Dark Devotion – Review

Dark Devotion is a 2D pixel art souls like game, which is a lot slower paced than other games in the genre. It’s great to look at, has a ton of fantastic boss encounters, and a deep combat system that’s immensely fun to engage with. It’s also really tough. You will die a lot, lose your stuff and get back out for the next run. But it’s really fun doing so and I rarely had a dull moment. Pros: Great combat Gorgeous visuals Fun boss fights Challenging Cons: Movement feels a bitt too slow for my taste Score – 7/10 About: Explore the secrets of a mysterious fallen temple and put your Templar faith to the test in Dark Devotion, where no sacrifice is too great in praise of your God. Measure your devotion and your bravery by journeying into deepest darkness for answers to questions that will...

Devolver Bootleg – Review

Devolver Bootleg is a fantastic collection of small titles reminiscent of older classics. Games like Enter the Gun Dungeon, Catsylvania, Hotline Milwaukee all are varied takes on old and recent classics, and are immensely fun. Some of these games can be a bit too tough, bit it all goes with the nostalgic feel of the games. If you are a fan of retro games, Devolver Bootleg is a must have collection of games in your library. Pros: Fantastic nostalgia fest Good variety of titles Great value for money Cons: Can feel frustratingly tough Not for everyone Score – 7.5/10 About: Devolver Bootleg contains eight original rip-offs of Devolver Digital games including:  Enter The Gun Dungeon Imagine a dungeon crawler but instead of swords it’s guns. But also everything is made out of guns and bull...
