Dollhouse – Review

Dollhouse is a mix of horror and noir themes blended together in some incredible ways. It’s not overly scary, but tells a story that definitely can make you uncomfortable, and the noir visuals nail it further down. You play as Marie, a detective piecing together her past in a mansion as something is coming after her. The graphics look a bit dated, but the art design makes up for it. There is, however, a good variety to the scenery, and the abilities and the story kept me hooked throughout the campaign. Pros: Interesting story Enjoyable gameplay, good variety Great art style Cons: Can get repetitive Some bugs Score: 7.5/10 About: This haunting horror game draws you into the mysterious atmosphere of film noir. Delve deep into the mind of Marie, a detective trying to unravel the secrets of he...

Journey Of Life – Review

I was drawn to Journey of Life because of it’s interesting premise –  a man loses his fortune and decides to live off the land, and build something for himself. It was grounded in reality, and is probably where I am headed in life as well. This game seemed like good practice. Anyways, Journey of Life is a survival game where you start off on an island, have to scavenge for foot and items, build a base, and eventually move out to other islands who have their own eco systems. It’s a bit more laid back than your average survival game, but I feel that it’s to the game’s credit.  Pros: Looks good Chilled out Interesting setting Lot of depth Cons: Lots of bugs and unfinished features Steep learning curve Score – 7/10 About: Journey of life is a survival sandbox game where the player ...

Trover Saves the Universe – Review

Trover Saves the Universe is a hilarious VR adventure with tons of goofy references and fun gameplay mechanics. The puzzles are fun to solve, the platforming is clever, and the writing is consistently funny. There are also a good variety of locations to explore, almost all of which if filled to the brim with characters to interact with and all along the story keeps you hooked. You can choose to play this game outside of VR if you want, and the experience is more or less the same. Pros: Hilarious Good story Fun gameplay Cons: Jarring ending Short Score – 8/10 About: From the co-creator of Rick and Morty comes Trover Saves the Universe. Your dogs have been dognapped by a beaked lunatic named Glorkon who stuffed them into his eye holes and is using their life essence to destroy the univ...

Space Engineers combines the ambitions of No Man’s Sky and the creative elements of Minecraft into one gigantic space adventure where you explore planets, gather resources, build your own ships and outposts and survive the harsh wonders of space. It has a lot of depth, and interwoven gameplay mechanics, and you can play both solo and in co-op. Exploration is an absolute delight, because the game is a treat to look at. And discovering new locations, gathering resources and building towards the next milestone is endlessly satisfying. Pros: Ambitious space exploration and crafting Lots of depth Looks great Has a ton of content Cons: Needs more polish Score – 8/10 About: Space Engineers is an open world sandbox game defined by creativity and exploration. After working hard at Job Simulator, it is now time for a vacation, and that’s what Vacation Simulator is all about. Carrying forward the same hilarious humor that was integral to Job Simulator, Vacation Simulator takes you to Vacation Island. It’s now time to chill out with fun activities, taking selfies and other important things that are not jobs. Pros: Well crafted VR experience Hilarious Might be a good replacement for actual vacations Cons: World building not as strong as Job Simulator Score – 8.5/10 About: Welcome to the Vacation Simulator, a rough approximation of VACATION inspired by real human NOT JOBBING, brought to you by the same robots behind the Job Simulator. Hell Let Loose – Review

There has been a resurgence of immersive World War themed games in the last few years, and many of them have been fairly good. Hell Let Loose, however, is easily the best one of these I have played in a while. It is a first person shooter set during World War 2, and you play as one of many soldiers in a massive battlefield. Players control the vehicles and dominating the battlefield is not a one person job. Tactical teamwork and coordination is a must, and this leads to some impressive emergent moments.  Pros: Realistic World War 2 experience Great graphics and sound design Satisfying vehicles Encourages communication Cons: Needs more destructible environments Score – 9.5/10 About: You’ve never played World War 2 the way it was meant to be played… with lumbering tanks dom...

The Sinking City – Review

Set in a city plagued by visions and a flood, The Sinking City puts you in the shoes of a Marine turned Detective. Your characters also shares visions similar to those of the denizens of the Sinking City, and he’s here to investigate and discover the source. With a dreadful and immersive atmosphere, some truly horrifying elements, The Sinking City is a really well made game with a few minor flaws. The discovery and exploration is really rewarding, and you need to study the map manually and understand where you need to go next. The gameplay has some issues though – it’s janky and clumsy. And there are some performance issues. However, despite these problems, I have never played a game quite like this and would easily recommend it to anyone. Pros: Great atmosphere Interesting setting C...

Lovely Planet 2: April Skies – Review

After you’re done playing fast paced twitchy shooters like Doom and Apex Legends, there’s only one way to step it up – Lovely Planet 2: April Skies. It’s one of the most frantic shooters I have ever played, and it’s a vibrant mix of cartoonish graphics, speed and momentum. It is mostly level based with not much of a story, but it sure is an afternoon’s worth of pure fun. There are a good amount of levels to play with, and each are fun to go through. Pros: Fast, fluid movement Great shooting Presents a good challenge Cons: Not as good as Lovely Planet Too easy at times Score – 7/10 About: Sequel to the most adorable First Person Shooter Gun Ballet. Feel the speed once again as you jump and shoot your way through the familiar cuetsy abstract world filled with clever traps and ang...

Automachef – Review

Imagine the gameplay of Satisfactory or Factorio, but applied to the wonderful world of food. Automachef sees you automating the process of food production and is insanely addictive. With a range of options at your disposal, including some neat building systems and a lot of production and automation tools, Automachef is one of the best games of its kind. There is a surprising amount of depth to the game overall, with a lot of small and large tools linking between each other to form a complex structure overall. Pros: Intuitive interface Fun flow of gameplay Lots of tools to play with Spot on humor Cons: Can get overwhelming Score – 8/10 About: Welcome to Automachef, a resource management puzzler where you design kitchens, program machinery and watch your genius come to life! My Friend Pedro – Review

My Friend Pedro is all about slow motion, bullet hell, skateboarding, bike chases and bananas. It’s the kind of games that strips almost everything away and reminds us of what the joy of playing games is all about. You play as an unnamed character, who has been kidnapped. A banana – Pedro – then appears and guides you and along the way asks you to kill everything. Trust me, you owe it to yourself to see this fantastic side-scroller. It looks great, the sund and level design are well done, and it’s absolutely stylish. Pros: Super stylish Fun gameplay Good variety Cons: Can get overwhelming Score – 9/10 About: My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient ban...
