Gamers Moving Back To Windows 7, According To Steam Hardware Survey

As the biggest video games’ storefront, Steam is an excellent repository of data. The monthly hardware survey is a pretty good way to find out about the new trends in the PC gaming market. According to the last month’s results, gamers seem to be moving back to Windows 7 for their favorite hobby.

Windows 10 had shown an excellent increase in the number of users back in June, but these numbers seem to be dwindling. According to the hardware survey, there has been a 0.74% decrease in the number of people who use it to play games on Steam. Meanwhile, Windows 7 is seeing a surge in user base, with an 0.86% increase over the last month. Apparently, a lot of people are switching sides, moving back to the old OS.

This is quite interesting, as Windows 10 claimed to be the OS for gaming. In the latest Creator’s Update for Windows 10, Microsoft added a new Game Mode that promises to enhance your gaming experience. It also supports Directx 12, which has shown better performance in games for both NVIDIA and AMD GPUs.  However, there still seems to be a number of issues, especially with older titles. A lot of times the games simply crash because of compatibility issues, or if they work, they have problems. Sometimes it can be fixed by just changing the compatibility settings, but not always. I guess we just have to wait and see how Microsoft plans to better optimize the Windows 10 OS for gaming.
