November saw a lot of high profile releases for video games, including much anticipated titles like Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2, Final Fantasy XV and many more. December, on the other hand seems to be a little slower, marking the end of year. Here are the biggest releases for the month of December.
1. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
- Release Date: 1st December
- Platform: Android and iOS
The fourth installment in the Ace Attorney series will also be the first one not to have Phoenix Wright in the lead role. Originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2007, the game will mark its entry on the iOS on 1st December, and week later on the Android platform on 8th December.
2. Steep
- Release Date: 2nd December
- Platform: Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
In a year filled with FPS titles, Ubisoft’s Steep brings extreme winter sports as a welcome change. You can ski, snowboard, paraglide and even fly in a wingsuit in this open world sprawling with mountain tops and snow. The open beta was released a little while ago, so anyone who might have missed it, the wait is almost over.
3. Super Mario Maker
- Release Date: 2nd December
- Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Super Mario Maker will bring the last year Wii U title to Nintendo’s beloved 3DS, letting players create their own levels in the style of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. You can share your masterpieces via StreetPlay and local wireless, but unfortunately, you cannot upload them to the internet for the entire world to take a look.
4. Dead Rising 4
- Release Date: 6th December
- Platform: Windows PC and Xbox One
The fourth zombie masher in the Dead Rising series is just as silly and fun, though the first one to have no time restriction of any sorts. You can freely explore the open world without any pressure. You know, apart from the ongoing zombie apocalypse. But take your time, it’s not like they’re going anywhere. In one DLC, there is a time test of sorts, where you have to find a cure before you turn into a zombie yourself. Fun times, right?
5. The Last Guardian
- Release Date: 6th December
- Platform: PlayStation 4
After numerous delays and a decade long development period, the spiritual successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is finally here. The Last Guardian is perhaps the most anticipated release for the PS 4 this year, and for all the right reasons. Here’s to hoping it’s as good as its predecessors!
6. Super Mario Run

Nintendo’s beloved plumber will make his debut on the smartphone this, running and jumping like he has been for the past decades. Super Mario Run is a premium game that comes at a premium price of USD 9.99 and will be available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. There’s a free version of the game as well, though it will only offer a small taste of the game’s modes. An Android version of the game is also in talks, but there has been no word regarding when it will be released.
