Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is set to release on the 27th of October. However, the game has already been cracked almost 2 days before launch. Pirated version of the game have started popping up across torrent sites. This comes in the wake of almost every single AAA game released lately getting cracked just days or hours within launch. Currently Assassin’s Creed: Origins is also sitting on torrents waiting to be cracked. The Evil Within 2 dropped Denuvo even before it launched, and Shadow Of War was cracked within hours.
This is definitely bad news for developers and publishers, and the industry at large. It had seemed like piracy had been on a decline back in 2014-16, but this year it looks like it’s back in full swing. This also comes amidst news of big publishers moving away from AAA single player games. With piracy this rampant, it only makes sense for developers to make multiplayer focused games or games as a service.
