Now This is Pod Racing! : WipEout Omega Collection Review

Fast paced anti-gravity racing with weapons, amazing music, and splendid visuals, WipEout Omega Collection is the best WipeEout experience yet. I have to say, as someone who hasn’t played a lot of WipEout, having only dabbled with it in the past, this is pod racing! But better! Developed by Sony XDev Europe, Clever Beans, and EPOS Game Studios for the PlayStation 4, this collection features a collection of content from Wipeout HD, Fury, and 2048. They’re not just ports but are actually remakes that support 4K-60fps and HDR.

The gameplay from the get go felt a lot like the WipEout of previous years that I had played but smoother. I started off at the slowest speed to get accustomed to it and then ramped it up to the fastest and that was mind-blowingly fast paced. Although it was hard to play it was just so much fun and extremely addictive.  The best part was that the controls were so responsive which meant that if there was an issue it was because of me and not the game being bad. Also, the AI is very good as well. They evolve and learn throughout the race and were pretty smart honestly. I got screwed over multiple times which had me cursing the game but I just shrugged it off because it was honestly something I’d do as well. It features a lot of races in the story mode that has the HD, Fury and 2048 modes separately so I had a lot of races and modes to choose from in case I got tired of one. It also split screen which lets you choose if you want to split the screen horizontally or vertically and it is a lot of fun. My friend and I had an absolute blast playing it in split screen. At the higher levels, it was absolute chaos which was extremely fun, something that not a lot of games could capture in recent times.

The game is an absolute stunner in terms of visual fidelity and it’s a damn shame that it doesn’t support VR because I would love to play this game in VR. The tracks are recreated very well, especially from the Vita which brings so much more life to them due to the vibrancy and scale. The colours are great, textures are fantastic and the end package is a game that looks really damn good. The sound of the game is also fantastic. The soundtrack of the game as vibrant as the visuals with electronic music that pumps you up while you race at a high velocity and features artists like the Prodigy and Dillon Francis. However I’ve been told that the music was not as good as the previous WipEout games but fret not for you can use your Spotify playlists to use in the game.

All in all, WipEout Omega Collection is a great bundle of the previous games packed in gorgeous visuals along with a fast-paced soundtrack to match the gameplay which is bound to be a lot of fun should you play it.
