In rather funny news today, a bunch of Far Cry 4 owners involuntarily revealed that they had pirated the game by going online and talking about one of the glitches they had encountered.
Ubisoft has devised a way to ensure that certain Far Cry 4 torrents contain a certain error which removes the game’s field-of-view controls. Without those controls, the picture becomes blurry and distorted.
After a few more players ranted on about this glitch they found online, a developer at Ubisoft revealed the true reason for the problem.
Alex Hutchinson, a creative director at Ubisoft Montreal, wrote on Twitter: “PC players! If you’re online complaining about the lack of FOV control … You pirated the game.”
This trick by Ubisoft is the latest in a long line of pranks played by developers on those who try to illegally download their games.
In September, Electronic Arts put a bug into pirated copies of The Sims 4 where the image becomes increasingly pixellated.
