The festival of Rakhi is all about the bond between a brother and a sister, symbolic of their love towards each other. And when it comes to pop culture, sisters have been an integral part of quite a lot of popular movies and TV shows, even video games for that matter. So we say, what better way to celebrate your sisters than to remember them through these badass characters who have perhaps left a life long impression on our minds? Take a look at the five absolutely kickass sisters from our favourite pop culture franchises.
Arya Stark – Game of Thrones
We can’t talk about badass sisters and not mention Arya Stark. In addition to being the favourite Stark member of every fan of the series, she is also probably one of the best characters on the show. From Westeros to Braavos, she is the ultimate survivor. She is fiercely independent, slapping every gender stereotype in the face, along with class distinctions and other people’s expectations. If you don’t believe us, the dictionary now has a picture of Arya Stark under the word badass. And we should probably remind you – A girl will kill your family and feed you their bodies.
Evie Frye – Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
Sure, we didn’t have much love for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, but we can’t deny that Evie Frye had a certain charm to her, specially when she got busy tickling foes with the pointy end of her knife. Oh, and she’s clearly the more brains of the operation among the brother-sister duo. Be it espionage, assassinations, street crime, or running a gang in London, Evie Frye has you covered. And, of course, she rarely needs her brother to protect her. On the other hand, she’s the one usually running off to save his whiny ass. Also, that charm I mentioned earlier, well it actually is of consequence beyond the extent of her knife. She actually won the heart of a fellow Indian, Jayadeep Mir (aka Henry Green).
Cersei Lannister – Game of Thrones
Okay, we know this may not be the poster picture for the perfect sister, but that doesn’t make her any less badass. When she’s not indulging in incest, this wine gulping, psychopathic matriach is fiercely thinking of ways to dispose of those who cross her, and somehow she always manages to get her way, no matter how south things may go. She’s lost her children, her brother and love is also somewhat gone and yet, instead of despairing, she kills almost everyone who had ever wronged her, in a blazing wildfire, seizing the Iron Throne, making it seem like it was a part of her game all along. Yes, we all know she’s the next Mad King, but that’s besides the point.
Debra Morgan – Dexter
Holy Fucking fuckshit of a motherfucking fuckity fuck. That probably describes Debra Morgan in one line. This cop, in addition to being probably the most kickass character on Dexter, was also the conscience of the show, providing a more moral sense of justice, in stark constrast to her brother who always pursued a much darker way. And as she has such an amazing way with words, we are not going to say more and leave you with some of her most iconic quotes.
River Tam – Firefly/Serenity
The child prodigy to whom everything comes naturally, River Tam is probably one of the coolest characters one can ever come across. Aloof and badass, she’s not scared to throw herself in harm’s way if it does good for those who care about her. The evil government did some horrible experiments on her and she had to be rescued by her brother, but she returned the favour numerous times. Oh, and she is as elegant as she is dangerous, single-handedly killing an overpowering horde of enemies while seeming as graceful as a ballerina. Is there anything this woman can’t do?
“River was more than gifted. She was a gift. Everything she did, music, math, theoretical physics—even dance—there was nothing that didn’t come as naturally to her as breathing does to us.“―Simon Tam
