Originally released in 2005, Yakuza Kiwami is the HD remake of the first game in the Yakuza series, and sets the stage for everything that is to come after. However, it’s much more than just a remake, since Yakuza Kiwami uses new assets, gameplay mechanics, and even makes changes to the story to smoothen out some of the design flaws and inconsistencies in the original title, and makes this a much more enjoyable experience in 2017. One of the first changes you notice is that the game does take into consideration Yakuza Zero, which is the prequel to the series and was released earlier this year. After his time in Yakuza Zero and then in prison, Kiryu Kazuma returns having to relearn many of his skills and also what’s happened to those around him. Things have changed since the 90’s, and the g...
The Dragon Walks the Streets Again – Yakuza Kiwami is Now Available in the Americas and Europe It’s time to bring it back to 2005 because Yakuza Kiwami, the HD remake of the PlayStation 2 classic Yakuza, is out now in the West! The game is now available physically and digitally on the PlayStation4 for $29.99 (with commensurate European pricing). Being retold in Kiwami is the nascent character arc for Yakuza – the game begins with series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu getting sent to prison for the murder of his family patriarch (which he didn’t commit). Worse yet, Kiryu’s chil...
Sega is expected to show some new stuff regarding the Yakuza franchise on 26th August, but thanks to the Taiwanese PSN Store, you may just get a glimpse at one of the things. Whoops! The listing revealed that Yakuza 2 will get a remake in the form of Yakuza Kiwami 2. It was removed immediately, but not before some quick fans (thanks, NeoGAF) were able to grab a screenshot of the page. According to the description, the game will make use of the same engine as Yakuza 6 and will release in Taiwan on 7th December this year. More details are expected to be revealed at the series’ weekend event. Register with us for the best in gaming, and join us for video game discussions on our forums.
