Xbox One Readies for Windows 10 streaming and Backward Compatibility

An update has began to roll out to Xbox One owners bringing support for game streaming and Backwards Compatibility. The Windows 10 game streaming feature, planned for release alongside the OS on July 29, will allow owners of the console to play their games directly through their PCs – perfect if you don’t own a 1080p tv, but do have a full HD monitor. Those lucky to be part of the Xbox Insider Preview program have been able to test this feature, along chance to test Xbox 360 games running on the Xbox One, for few weeks now. The July update to Xbox One also sets the groundwork for October’s launch of Backwards Compatibility – with 100 games expected to be available when it rolls out. Custom Xbox One Systems You Can Win

Much as it did last year, Microsoft is giving away 20 custom Xbox One systems as part of San Diego Comic-Con, including consoles themed around Gears of War, Halo 5, Game of Thrones, and more. While you will need to attend Comic-Con next week in order to see all 20 systems in-person, you can still win one without stepping foot inside of California. You can enter to win in one of three ways. One involves taking a photo of a console at the show and posting it to Twitter or Instagram with certain hashtags, but the other two methods don’t require you to leave your couch. During Comic-Con, you can look for the SDCC Collectible Console Sweepstakes section on an Xbox 360 or Xbox One to enter by July 12. Alternatively, you can follow the official Xbox account on Twitter and retweet a message ...

ZombiU Coming to Other Platforms?

ZombiU, the famed Zombie game by Ubisoft on the WiiU, may finally be coming over to platforms other than the WiiU. A rating went up on the Australian Classification board by the name of Zombi, noticably dropping the ‘U’ along with other allusions to the WiiU. The game is rumoured to be in developement for Xbox One and PS4. The game itself is a procedural Zombie survival horror game, in which the player character is entirely randomised, along with their environments. Every time the PC dies, a new one is randomly generated. It’s most notable feature on the WiiU was it’s utilization of the touch screen as a real time inventory management screen, so we don’t expect all that many issues from platform hopping. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Could Have an eSports Future

Developer The Coalition and its studio head Rod Ferguson are at E3 talking about the importance of establishing their Gears of War bonafides with the finally-confirmed Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. But in a behind closed doors info session on the game this week, there were indications that Ferguson and co. have plans to lay longer term groundwork for the series with the multiplayer community. Among bullet points about resolutions and framerates and map counts, a few things stuck out to me in particular. First, that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will include a spectator feature for multiplayer matches, a de facto requirement for proper “casting” — i.e., for commentators to direct view of the action and make play-by-play analysis of matches in a live capacity. Second, Gears of...

Xbox Updates: Controller, New Model and More

Microsoft will be offering a new model of the Xbox One, with a 1TB Hard Disk Drive and a matte finish, as opposed to the glossy finish it sells with now, which is an atrocious fingerprint and dust magnet. Unlike the PS4, the Xbox One does not allow users to replace the HDD themselves without voiding the warranty. This new console will be bundled with Halo: Master Chief Collection for a limited period. Microsoft also announced  a controller redesign, which tweaks the bumpers slightly and removes the proprietary headset jack and replaces it with a 3.5mm jack. In addition, they also released a special edition Covert Forces controller, which has a grey camouflage finished shell. Microsoft also released the long awaited wireless dongle for coupling the Xbox One controller with a PC, which befor...
