NVIDIA today unveiled a VR-ready program to help gamers navigate their way to great virtual reality experiences. The company has partnered with PC and notebook makers and add-in card providers to deliver “GeForce® GTX® VR Ready” systems and graphics cards that deliver an immersive VR gaming experience. The program minimizes confusion regarding which equipment is necessary to play the range of VR games and applications increasingly coming to market. Sony yesterday revealed a new version of their PS4 virtual reality headset, code-named Project Morpheus, and though it isn’t final neither is it ready to go out onto the market, Sony has boasted how much better this one is than the one they showed off last year. Sony said at the GDC presentation in San Francisco, that Morpheus will ship out in the first half of 2016. There is however no word on how much it will cost. The latest version of the virtual reality kit has an OLED display with 1920×1080 resolution. It will also offer frame rate options of 60fps and 120fps. Valve is slowly getting very comfortable with the idea of having a huge video screen being mounted to its face, as it was announced that the beta client of Steam is to add a “virtual reality mode” option. The latest beta version of Steam does away with the “-vr” command line option and replaces it with a button in the view menu, which only appears for those with SteamVR installed when a head-mounted display like the Oculus Rift is detected.
