Game Dev Put Their Game On Torrents, Wants To Destroy The “Cancer Leeching Off The Industry”

While most game developers are usually resentful when it comes to Piracy and Torrents, Acid Wizard Studios have an entirely different approach, and it’s one that actually benefits the industry. Darkwood is an absolutely fantastic horror game with no jump scares, but tons of moody atmosphere and tense gameplay. We ourselves have played it and got really freaked out by it. But if you can’t afford the game right now, here’s what the developers have to say: We’ve also been flooded by emails! There’s more of them than we are able to reply to, actually. The sad thing is, that a lot of those are scam emails. You know, when people claim to be a youtuber or blogger and ask for a Steam key. That key then gets sold through a shady platform. Viewing Torrent Websites Will Not Land You In Jail, Yet

There’s been quite the uproar on the internet lately because of Torrents. Governments are taking down big websites, and recent news had folks in a panic after some Torrent websites were blocked with a notification saying that one could be imprisoned for up to 3 years, with a fine of Rs. 3,00,000 for accessing these blocked websites. This led people to believe that if they had used a VPN or similar alternatives to access these blocked sites, they could land in prison, and find themselves short of Rs. 3,00,000. As it turns out, that’s not exactly the case. Prasanth Sugathan, Counsel at the Software Freedom Law Centre India, a registered society that works on the intersections of law and technology told NDTV the following: “Visiting any website, even if it is a blocked site ...

The Witness Being Pirated Heavily On PC

Jonathan Blow’s latest game, The Witness, has been out for a few days now, and is being showered with praises and glowing reviews. However, none of that seems to stop thousands of PC users from pirating the game instead of paying for what seems to be a worthy purchase. Blow tweeted today that “It seems The Witness is the #1 game on a certain popular torrent site. Unfortunately this will not help us afford to make another game!” The independent developer then continued to lament the potential impact of his game being stolen: “I’m glad that a lot more people will be experiencing the game! But I also want to be able to make another comparable game next! Just sayin’.” For Blow’s hit game Braid, which some would argue was a catalyst for the indie ...
