Transcending The Medium: A Transistor Review

Awe-inspiring, jaw dropping and absolutely mesmerizing, Transistor is all of that and so much more. A game that genuinely struck a chord with me and impressed me so much that it left me craving for more after I had finished it. It draws you in on an emotional level that makes you empathise with Red and, the events that have unfolded around her and are about to unfold. And just like Red, I was left speechless with the beauty of it all. Transistor is a sci-fi action RPG game developed and published by Supergiant Games, famous for their previous, critically acclaimed title ‘Bastion’. The game is set in a very cyberpunk futuristic city known as Cloudbank that is run by Administrators to keep the world safe and to satisfy people by letting them decide on things such as the weather c...

I Think, Therefore I Am What? – SOMA Review

A Legacy Of Terror Frictional games have carved themselves a reputation for making horror games with a unique gameplay mechanics. Minimal or no offensive power to the player means lurking around terrors rather than taking on them. Physics and gestures based environmental interactions mean that even simple acts like opening a door leaves you with sweaty palms and thumping heart. Amnesia: The Dark Descent brought mainstream recognition to them. The following years has seen this apporach being adopted by other games like Outlast and (most famously) Alien Isolation. With SOMA, Frictional now takes us into the future and down below under the sea. Who am I? We start the game as Simon Jarett, an average joe living in present day Toranto. Simon has recently been in a Car crash in which he sustaine...

Hack Doggy Style: Watch Dogs 2 Review

Ubisoft sure has learned a thing or 17 from it’s past failures, and Watch Dogs 2 is a culmination of all that learning, without rectifying all of the mistakes. Right off the bat, the game sets the tone for a vibrant, pop culture, social media and internet trends-driven cyber society, and puts you in the shoes of a young, very millennial hacker, Marcus Holloway. And that in itself shows how much Ubisoft wants to get away from the baggage that the franchise has from the first game in the series. Instead of a whiny-little-cunt of a protagonist, plodding through a drab city, we have a young fella, who just wants to gain social media followers, and bring about digital justice across the world. And the world in itself, set in San Francisco, is a colorful and rather accurate (and at times e...

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Jason Connell wrote that the game will benefit from a lot of the PS 4 Pro features, especially HDR support, meaning If you have an HDR-ready TV and a PS4 Pro, you’ll get even more realistic-looking lighting and exposure effects. “We wanted the art direction and tech to reflect realism in a way that immerses players in the damp, rainy streets of Seattle,” Connell wrote. “We did a lot of work to ensure our sky, sun, and light sources felt like the real thing. So why is HDR such a big deal now? This patch, along with an HDR capable TV, ...
