Nvidia recently launched a brilliant text adventure game to promote a mysterious forthcoming product, but a leak may have ruined the surprise. A series of slides resembling a typical Nvidia press deck has leaked (intercepted via VideoCardz.com), revealing two new members of the Shield family: A tablet and a wireless controller. Many were expecting a successor to the original Shield, Nvidia’s multipurpose handheld console which boasted a built-in controller and a penchant for latency-free PC game streaming. I reviewed it and continue to evangelize it, even if it does target a somewhat niche audience due to its form factor. In January NVIDIA announced its new mobile processor called Tegra K1. It is the first SoC to include a full cluster of 192 CUDA cores bringing incredible graphics perform...

PC hardware manufacturer Nvidia are of the opinion that the PC is “far superior” to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as a gaming platform, and that small form-factor PCs should be a viable alternative or option to next-gen consoles. “We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC,” said Matt Wright, Nvidia consumer sales manager. Wright went on to say “The PC platform is far superior to any console when it comes to gaming, plus you get all the extra functionality that a computer brings.” Small PC gaming boxes are a major aspect of ‘Valve’s SteamOS push’ to try and get PC hardware into the living room, with the first Steam Machines expected to ship in...
NVIDIA announced Gamestream this morning, an initiative aimed at pairing the company’s GPUs with streaming gaming via its Shield handheld game console. Company head Jen-Hsun Huang says the service takes NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience software and pairs it with NVIDIA GPUs and the Shield to push streaming gaming to the living room. Huang said Gamestream’s first stop is a re-branding of the Shield’s streaming tech — sounds like that PC streaming tech on Shield is coming out of beta. But Huang’s not stopping there: he pulled NVIDIA’s Ujesh Desai on-stage, and he showed Shield powering PC game streaming on a nearby LG 4K television. “What makes Gamestream special is the low-latency of it,” Huang said. Desai used a Nyko wireless controller that...

Nvidia has responded to consumer concerns over the price of its Android-based handheld, dropping the price this morning. Additionally, the company has announced that it will start shipping the units next week. Nvidia was coming to market with its Tegra 4-powered handheld at a price of $349 but now the price has come down to $299. We expect that the price of the PlayStation 4 ($399) may have resulted in the rethink.
