Amy Hennig, the writer behind the critically acclaimed Uncharted series, has publicly denounced the AAA gaming industry, saying that the conditions under which the people making the games work are unacceptable. In an audio interview for the Idle Thumbs Designer Notes podcast, here’s what Hennig had to say when asked about how the industry’s standards affect her personally, “Really hard. The whole time I was at Naughty Dog – ten and a half years – I probably, on average, I don’t know if I ever worked less than 80 hours a week. There were exceptions where it was like ‘Okay, let’s take a couple of days off’, but I pretty much worked seven days a week, at least 12 hours a day. A lot of the team was there. I mean, Naughty Dog is pretty notorious for the...
Two of Naughty Dog’s loved most love franchises, The Last of Us and Uncharted are coming out as movies, but the release date has a big question mark. Neil Druckman, the Creative Director behind both the titles, in a recent interview with The Frame said, “I have been a writer on it (The Last of Us movie adaptation), but right now it hasn’t moved anywhere in the past couple years.” He goes on to say, “The Uncharted film has been in development now for I think nine years so we’ve learned these things happen at their own time, very slowly.” In a past interview with IGN, Druckman had offered some disappointing news about the movie, “”I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of...
In a somewhat awkward fumble by Naughty Dog, the latest story trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End had featured artwork from an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag art book. While Ubisoft was quick to point it out, and Naughty Dog fixed that error promptly and rather gracefully, it did bring to mind the question whether the art work was used only in the painting set on the mantle or elsewhere in the game. To put it bluntly, was it used as a location in the game itself? If you watch the video carefully, you’ll notice that the locale shown right after the painting appears carries an uncanny resemblance. You can see the image below: If this does turn out to be the case, then Naughty Dog is surely scrambling to re-make this section of the game. Not only does any resemblance to ...
When Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will launch the game’s multiplayer mode in 2016, it will feature microtransactions from the beginning. Eric Monacelli who was working at Naughty Dog up until October being its community strategist has supported the action game’s use of micropayments. Speaking to MCV, Monacelli–who presently works for Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward–stated that controversy around microtransactions in gaming is nothing unusual. He mentioned that “people bridled” when Bethesda sold horse armor for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion back in 2006. “But if it is good enough content and you desire to pay for it, why not buy it?” he mentioned. “That is exactly what it comes down to.” Monacelli also questioned the concept that developers cut content from a game to sell it piece by p...
Uncharted 4, the sequel to the uncharted series has now been cancelled. The Co-director Neil says he’s tired, and going to spend the rest of his years participating in a “No-shave November” in the mountains. He called us up and said ” Yes Assholes I’m definitely in for the competition!” (Are you in!?). And he also sent us this picture, we haven’t quite figured out what he’s aiming for. When die hard fans of Uncharted demanded answers to a million questions like, what now? What happens to Drake? Is Elena single now? Do I still get my money back? Naughty Dog responded like every successful company does with, “Your call is very important to us, please stay on the line, you are the next caller”. When the fans stormed their office they...
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the long awaited final sequel of the Uncharted Series has been delayed. The release date has be rescheduled from fall 2015 to March 18 2016. “It was a very hard decision,” said Neil Druckmann the co-director at Naughty Dog. But they felt doing this was important so as to get the ending right. “Even when I’m describing the ending, it’s a pretty… Well, I guess this is a little bit of a spoil… Nah, I’m not going to say it! But there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do,” Druckmann said. “And again, we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline.” He continued by saying that he knew that some fans...

Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves. Some of these trailers that are more subtle in a way seem to capture our attention much more than an action packed one. Maybe its because it makes you listen more carefully which probably causes one to pay more attention to the video. Or maybe just cause its been shown at E3. Oh how I wish I was there…”sigh”( tear rolling down my left cheek) From the trailer above ...
Something seems to be brewing over at Naughty Dog studios. Some stuff has been taking place behind the scenes according to The Last of Us Game Director Bruce Straley took to Twitter to express his appreciation for a prototype a designer was sketching: “I got goosebumps playing & talking thru a prototype a designer was sketching in yesterday! That’s how I know… #GonnaBeAwesome” Marek Okon, a freelance concept artist that worked on several pieces of artwork for the game, recently posted on his Facebook account the work in progress artwork you can see above. Let me tease you something… Its coming… ;] The unfinished picture above definitely looks like a older version of Ellie holding a guitar. And if you’ve played The Last of Us you’ll know about Joel and Ellie having a certai...
Sony has finally confirmed the rumor that The Last of Us: Remastered is real. “SCEA can confirm The Last of Us Remastered is coming to PS4, and we’ll be sharing more details with you shortly.” This rumor initially started when a listing for The Last of Us: Remastered for PlayStation 4 was seen on Sony’s PlayStation Store. The listing, spotted by NeoGAF, has appeared on the Sony Entertainment Network website in the US, stating a $59.99 price and a day one digital release–suggesting a physical edition is also likely in the works. A few days ago, The Last of Us Creative Director Neil Druckmann and Game Director Bruce Straley held a Reddit Ask Me Anything where they mentioned that developer Naughty Dog still has to decide whether we’ll see a sequel to The Last of Us. “Right now I’d say it’s 50/50,” Druckmann said. About a month back, word was going around that The Last of Us team was brainstorming for its next project. Druckmann said that some ideas are for brand new games while others are for a sequel. “It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind,” he said. “Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired–what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytel...
