Bioware Montreal Faces Downsizing, Mass Effect Put On Hiatus

The views on Bioware’s latest entry to the epic Mass Effect franchise, Andromeda have been mixed, to say the least. The game does have a lot of issue which need solving, and amidst all the different reactions, it’s natural to wonder what the future holds for the series. According to Kotaku, sources close to the studio have said that Bioware has turned Bioware Montreal (the studio that developed Andromeda) into a support studio, and put Mass Effect on a hiatus for now. Though it’s highly unlikely that the studio will pull the plug on the popular sci-fi franchise, we may not get to see another Mass Effect adventure anytime soon. Here’s the official statement Kotaku received when they reached out for a comment: “Our teams at BioWare and across EA put in tremendou...

Crafting in Mass Effect: Andromeda Lets You Create Your Own Krogan Hammer

The Mass Effect series never included crafting as a big component, but that’s about to change. Not only do you get to create weapons in Mass Effect: Andromeda, but apparently you can also name them. Lead Designer Ian Frazier teased on Twitter by announcing that the game allows players to craft their own Krogan-styled hammer and name it GRABTHAR’S HAMMER. To that, senior designer replies that he created his own assault rifle and called it FAST, and a sniper rifle which he decided to call FURIOUS. Why do devs have all the fun? @tibermoon Today in my in-progress playthrough I made an Assault Rifle named FAST and a Sniper Rifle named FURIOUS. — Justin Perez (@thejustinperez) January 17, 2017 That’s not all. When asked whether the game will also have more melee weapons, Frazie...

The Mass Effect: Andromeda Gameplay Trailer We’ve Been Waiting For

A gameplay trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda was long overdue, and it’s finally here. Premiered at The Game Awards, we finally have some knowledge of what to expect from the upcoming Bioware title. You can check out the trailer below. The trailer showcases a lot of details, along with a narration that describes features that make this iteration different from the original trilogy. It looks a lot less cover-based than its predecessors, and a lot more action-packed. We still don’t know whether pausing and issuing commands to your squad are there, but it still looks kickass. You can teleport (or as the game describes it, Biotic Charge) or be like a Pyromancer and shoot flames out of your hands. Finally! Crafting and resource gathering will also be a focus of the game, which could...

Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Protagonists Are Brother And Sister

You knew that Ryder, the protagonist in Mass Effect: Andromeda can be played as either male or female. But did you also know that these two versions are actually siblings? In an interview with Playstation Access, Mac Walters (the Creative Director) revealed that not only the male and female versions of Ryder are siblings, but they will also exist in the game world at the same time. “What a lot of people don’t know, little surprise here, is that these two are brother and sister,” he said. “And they both exist in the game world at the same time. So if you’re playing as the sister Ryder, female Ryder, your brother is somewhere in the universe.” In the original Mass Effect trilogy, you could play Shepard as a male or female as well, but the character existed...

Mass Effect Andromeda Gets A 4K Gameplay Trailer For PS 4 Pro

A new gameplay trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda was showcased at the Playstation Meeting, showing off the 4K capabilities of the Playstation 4 Pro. The trailer features very unfamiliar alien environments, a new power jump mechanic and the new default Ryder character. As the first official gameplay for the game, it offers significant insight to what we can expect from the game. I mean, 4K is all good, the PS 4 Pro is cool, but I’m definitely more psyched for Andromeda. According EA, a new trailer is on the way, and they will “officially open the doors to the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe”. I’m guessing it will be some sort of Early Access/Alpha/Open Beta kind of thing. Check out the cool high-res trailer below.   Mass Effect: Andromeda is expected t...

Dragon Age: Inquisition mods are actually a thing

Dragon Age: Inquisition looks like it will indeed be getting mods, contrary to popular belief, with work on a particular modding tool proceeding apace. As stated on the Nexus Mods page, DAI Tools’ goal is to make a Skyrim-alike creation kit, so anyone can modify the assets in Inquisition. DAI Tools has been available since December 19, with the most recent update being a special Christmas present. That, or just one that happened to be on Christmas Day, who knows? At the time of writing all you can mod is some Skyhold outfit colours, but the fact you can do this shows a promising start for a game a lot of assumed would just remain unmodded. No word as of yet if EA is sharpening its ban-hammer, or even if it’s something that needs to be sharpened. But I for one would hope everythi...
