Skyrim: Special Edition – $60 Too Much For A Remaster?

Skyrim: Special Edition – $60 Too Much For A Remaster?

Remasters of old games have become commonplace, and overpricing issues with these remasters even more common. This time, Bethesda’s getting heat for putting a $60 price tag on The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Special Edition.

As you may know, Skyrim is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series and has been a favourite game for many gamers ever since its release. The Special Edition includes the critically acclaimed game and all three DLCs with remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more. Skyrim Special Edition also has support mod support for consoles, thus bringing new quests, environments, characters, dialogue, armor, weapons and more, which until now was only available on PC.

Now, most of the people will definitely not want to pay $60 for “just a remaster”. But the thing is, this particular remaster is quite extensive. The entire base game, which is quite an epic itself, along with all the three add-ons in completely overhauled graphics, not to mention that they’re bringing the power of PC mods to two completely different platforms. From Bethesda’s point of view, it may be justified to defend this price tag and sell it as an individual game, rather than thinking of it simply as a remaster. In a response to a Twitter post about how Skyrim Special Edition is way too overpriced, Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines points out how extensively the game is overhauled when compared to the original.

In another Twitter post, Hines also confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Special Edition will support all the same languages as the original. The game is supposed to be out this year October.
