For those living under a rock, the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X is AMD’s latest workstation grade CPU that comes with 16 cores and 32 threads. While it’s not exactly aimed at gaming, it’s a little hard not to wonder how it would perform in games. But thanks to Linus Tech Tips, we have a look at the first Threadripper gaming benchmarks. The tests have been done on an Alienware Area 51 machine that comes with the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X with a clock speed of 3.4 GHz and a 40MB cache. The CPU is priced at USD 999.
The Linus benchmarks test the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X against the Intel Core i9 7900X, Intel Core i7 7700K and the AMD Ryzen 1800X. All these were set up with 32GB DDR4 RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti. The only game tested at the moment was Rise of the Tomb Raider, and it shows somewhat similar performance across all the CPUs.
There were a horde of other benchmarks as well, mainly comparing the productivity performance of the 1950X. It showed an amazing leap in Blender, leaving the competition far behind. You can take a look at the complete video below.
