The Uncharted 4’s expansion ‘Uncharted:The Lost Legacy’ has received a statement from Rajan Zed, the President of Universal Society of Hinduism. While he welcomed the exploration of Hinduism and it’s beliefs in Video Games and other medium, he also expressed concerns about it being taken lightly and not given due respect. The statement says:

“Refashioning of Hinduism scriptures, symbols, traditions, concepts and deities for mercantile greed was likely to hurt the sentiments of devotees; and misrepresentation created confusion among non-Hindus about Hinduism,” reads the statement. “Insensitive handling of faith traditions sometimes resulted in pillaging serious spiritual doctrines and revered symbols.”
As the game is set in India and there are reports that the concept of Hinduism has been borrowed and that it will play a key role in narrative, leading to fears of “trivialization.”
He also said that if Sony or its subsidiaries need expertise on Hinduism, he along with other Hindu scholars would provide the company with necessary resources. This is not the first game that is dealing with Hinduism. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin also dealt with this issue but it didn’t handle it well and ended up insulting Hindus and Sikhs. We’ll have to see how Uncharted: The Lost Legacy handles this.
