In our Girl Gamer feature today we have with us professional shoutcaster Angela, who also used to cosplay for a while but have been a gamer for a long long time. She gives us her insights and shares her story as a gamer girl.
Gaming Central: Great to have you with us Angela, tell us how long have you been shoutcasting?
Zerah Gonsalves: I have been a gamer all my life, a cosplayer for about few months and a shoutcaster for 3 years.
GC: Do you have a gaming name, or is it just Angela?
ZG: Just Angela, haha.
GC: When did you realize that gaming was one of your passions and not just a hobby anymore?
ZG: When I was 5 I guess, my dad got me a nintendo super famicom. Been in love ever since.
GC: Gaming as it is has a pretty stagnant notion here in India, being a girl did it make it harder for you to convince others of your passion?
ZG: Everything at the start is always hard, and being a girl, yes it did get harder, but overtime I don’t think I needed to convince people anything, I enjoyed what I played and only looked at getting better at it. My parents always supported me, and the gamers I played with always kept teaching me and helping me out .
I got my first cast from a SriLankan event, and from then on I was not only just a gamer, I was also a shout-caster. There were a few difficulties being a shout-caster. It was very new to me back then, and I got mixed reviews from the gamers. But overtime I have improved and grown to be a professional caster, which has given me a lot of confidence. I think the hardest thing for me was hosting a gaming event for the first time cause I didn’t know if the community would accept me, but I have been blessed I guess. It’s always worked well for me.
GC: What is your favorite game?
ZG: Dota, 4 years and counting
GC: Do you belong to the PS, Xbox or PC clan?
ZG: Definitely PC.
GC: If you had one superpower, what would it be?
ZG: The power to teleport anywhere anytime!
GC: Okay so here is a very random one for you, if you were locked in a room with Joker with nothing but a pogo stick and sombrero in your hand, what would you do?
1.Take turns going on the pogo stick
2. Make Joker wear the sombrero while you pummel him with the pogo stick
3. Or just sit there waiting for Batman to save you
ZG: Make Joker wear the sombrero while you pummel him with the pogo stick
GC: If there was one gaming character you could meet, real or virtual who would it be and why?
ZG: I would love to meet ancient apparition from Dota 2. He has been my best played hero till date, I love ice and he is basically ice cold. So it’s just perfect!
GC: If shoutcasting wasn’t in the picture, what do you imagine doing?
ZG: I think I would have been an air hostess , love flying!
GC: Do you have any advice for other gamer girls out there?
ZG: The years have passed when you hardly saw any girl gamers in our country, but it is pretty common now. Just play a game you love, and don’t think you can’t be a good player, all it takes is practice, It really does not matter what sex you are.
GC: Thanks so much for your time Angela, it was a pleasure talking to you.
ZG: Same here guys, cheers.
