The most common video game genres associated with electronic sports are real-time strategy, fighting, first-person shooter, and multiplayer online battle arena. Tournaments such as the World Cyber Games, the Evolution Championship Series, and the Intel Extreme Masters provide both live broadcasts of the competition, and cash prizes to competitors.

Valve Software’s prize pool for the fifth International Dota 2 Championship began its crowd-funding campaign last Thursday night with a $1.6 million purse to start, but that number has skyrocketed in the several days since. Sales of the TI5 Compendium, a sort of virtual “program” offering in-game challenges, fantasy league-style predictions, and in-game cosmetic rewards have since contributed an additional $3.9 million to the tournament’s potential winnings. So we just got done with the GTX 960 Cup a couple of days back in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai on the 31st of January. We would firstly want to thank you guys for your support, be it through social interactions like watching the twitch streams or interacting on facebook or actually turning up at the venues with your team, we really appreciate your passion and were glad that we were able to host this tournament with just a wonderful bunch of people. For the GTX 960 Cup we’re expanding by adding a third city, Hyderabad to the mix. So now this event is going to take place in three venues simultaneously. So we are done with the first ever Respawn Cup which also was 2015’s First Global Offensive LAN Tournament in India and we would like to thank you all for your support in making this event a success. We would especially want to thank the teams that took part in the tournament, even those who came to just show to your support, we really appreciated it. We had a great time being able to interact with teams, both professional and newly formed. We learnt a lot about the gaming community and more importantly the various twists and turns a tournament like this entails.
