The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo’s biggest upcoming title has been pushed further back, and will miss the launch date for the Nintendo Switch.
According to Eurogamer, a new report which details the game’s current state of development, and which tallies with information provided to them by sources close to Nintendo, “four-to-six months of testing will follow” before the game launches.
Breath of the Wild was first announced in 2013 and was set to launch for the Wii U in 2015, but since then has been delayed multiple times. It was supposed to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch, but has been delayed again. One of the main reasons for the game’s delay has to do with localisation. Given its scope, it has been difficult for Nintendo to localize all of Breath of the Wild‘s text, NPCs, and quests. Localisation for the game will continue through until the end of this year. This is before the four-to-six month testing period.
The big question is, now that the next Zelda title is out of the question, what will be the big Nintendo Switch release title? A Super Mario game seems to be an obvious choice, and there was something in the Switch announcement trailer as well, but there are no details beyond that.
Nintendo Direct, planned for 12th January will hopefully shed some light on the launch titles, in addition to revealing the complete specs and price details. Stay tuned for updates.
