As the console wars is still on between PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Atari is also set to enter the arena with their AtariBox. It is a box. From Atari. It’s got four USB ports, an HDMI port, an SD card slot and a place to plug in a network cable. This was teased back in June as the new Atari console. There are two versions, one with a wood front and one with black glass.
Earlier Atari sent an email-
“As you can guess, those ports suggest modern internal specs. It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content. We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so.”
It isn’t clear what types of games this console will play but it seems it won’t be running any old Atari cartridges, although it might run old games through emulation. But in the email they also talk about running current gen content. Maybe Atari is trying to copy what Nintendo did with NES Classic. Atari box looks like it’ll be an android box like Nvidia Shield, Ouya etc.
Only time will tell how this console is going to turnout, in the meantime I’m pretty excited for this as we will be getting a new toy to play and fiddle with, tell us what you think about Atari box and register with us for the best in gaming, and join us for video game discussions on our forums.
