Are You Addicted To Video Games?

After years and years of playing tons of video games, developing crazy skills in order to remove the tag of ‘NOOB’ from our Gamertag, we got the tag of mental disorder instead of a pro. And if you’re reading this, I’m 87 percent sure that you have this mental disorder.

Yes, it is official. World Health Organisation (WHO) has recognised gaming addiction as a mental disorder. The disorder will be listed in the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), to be published in June, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic told reporters in Geneva.

The exact words that describe the disorder are; “a pattern of gaming behaviour, that can be digital gaming or video gaming, characterised by impaired control over gaming, increased priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests.”

A person must display such behaviour for at least a year before being diagnosed with the disorder. Moreover, the anecdotal evidence suggests that the condition disproportionately affects younger people more connected to the ever-expanding online gaming world.

But hey, we should look for light even in the darkest situations of our lives, shouldn’t we? So here are a couple of benefits you’ll get if you’re diagnosed with this disorder.

  • You can use disabled parking spots.
  • You can use disabled washrooms.
  • You can rightfully demand seats for the disabled in a metro.
