After the wild success of Pokemon Go, the development team at Niantic have decided to try their hands at another massive franchise with worldwide following – Harry Potter. Here’s a short excerpt as reported by Tech Crunch:
Niantic Labs had tremendous success with Pokémon Go, which paired their expertise in building location-based augmented reality mobile experiences with a top-flight IP with a ravenous fan base. So, it stands to reason that we should expect a similar fan response to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, an AR title set to launch in 2018, co-developed by Warner Bros. Interactive and its new sub brand Portkey Games.
News about this Harry Potter had been rumored for almost a year, and now after the official confirmation it remains to be seen how they translate the world of Harry Potter into a mobile game with AR elements. Niantic intends to take their learnings from Ingress and Pokemon Go, and make the Harry Potter experience revolve around real world locations.
One can only hope that Niantic is able to capture the magic of Harry Potter, and along the way, capture the imagination of millions of fans.
