Top 10 Worst Games In Our Favorite Video Game Franchises (Part 1)

We all have our favorite Video Game franchises, be it Fallout or Assassin’s Creed or Metal Gear Solid. But even the best of them can stumble at times, and we’ve decided to take a look at the worst games in our favorite video game franchises. Some of these games are good, just not as good as other games in the series, while others are simply bad and not worthy of the company they keep.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the lowest point in the series so far. Even with the buggy mess that Unity was, it was at least ambitious – good combat, visually stunning, and even somewhat decent of a story. Syndicate was just an absolute slog with no real sens of direction.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

We’ve come to expect a certain degree of insanity from Metal Gear, and while Portable Ops is a good game in and of itself, it just does not live up to the legacy of the series. Maybe being a PSP game held it back, but Portable Ops never added much to the franchise like the other games did.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky

While it does look fantastic, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky seemed to lose focus of what made the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games so good. The faction system was never as strong, and the combat never as tense or compelling.

Prince Of Persia 2008

Prince Of Persia 2008 doesn’t really feel like a Prince Of Persia game. While Ubisoft tried to go for a more lighter tone with the new Prince, he didn’t really have the charm or the personality of the Prince from the previous games. The game’s focus of 3D platforming also make the game feel really slow to get to any real action.

Counter Strike: Source

Counter Strike: Source never really got as much attention as it deserved to, and not because of any real fault of its own. The game was fun and did look great for the time, but people were already too invested in CS 1.6 to move on to Source.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

While Mass Effect: Andromeda makes significant improvements in environmental design, combat and exploration, it fails to deliver a compelling story or create characters that we wanted to care about.

Resident Evil 6

Capcom just took all the wrong lessons from previous Resident Evil games and went all in with the combat in Resident Evil 6. The end result game was a generic third person shooter, with none of the elements that made for a good Resident Evil game.

Grand Theft Auto 3

Grand Theft Auto has only been getting better with every single iteration, but Grand Theft Auto 3 never stuck with me as well as the other games in the series did. The game is not bad, but it never left an impact on me as other GTA games did.

Dark Souls 2

Maybe it was missing the special touch of Hidetaka Miyazaki, but Dark Souls 2 never landed the same way with fans as the other SoulsBorne games have. It’s not necessarily a bad game, but lacked the ingenious level design, combat encounters and boss fights as other games in the series.

  1. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate the worst? You’re insane. While it wasn’t the best, at least the dual characters was a fun idea. AC3 (or even AC1) were clearly the worst in the series. AC3 had a protagonist that you just wanted to punch in the face all the time. The only good thing that came out of that game was the boat elements that gave way to AC4.
