Activision and Sledgehammer revealed some details about the upcoming Call of Duty: WWII, including the release date and private amongst other things. Now, new details have come to light regarding the game’s single-player campaign.
According to Polygon, COD: WW2 will bid goodbye to the health regeneration system, something that has been a vital mechanic of the series for more than a decade. Speaking to the site, Sledgehammer Games’ co-founder Glen Schofield said,” “You have to worry about every bullet. You’re not the superhero. You can’t just stand there taking seven bullets, ducking, shooting again. It’s refreshing for us to deal with recruits who aren’t Tier One warriors, to show that vulnerability. They’re naive. It’s been a really cool challenge creating this different kind of gameplay.”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the gameplay is affected by this change. The original Call of Duty required the player to pick up med-kits in order to replenish health, but following that every game in the series has featured the health regen mechanic where the player’s health would regenerate automatically when they’re not taking damage.
Additionally, the game will also introduce squad-based mechanics, where different members of the squad have different abilities that can help you in a sticky situation. The idea, as Michael Condrey, the co-founder from Sledgehammer tells GamesRadar, is to move away from the idea of being a super-soldier.
“Part of being this squad and working together was about helping each other out in a very different way than in previous games. This is you relying on your squad, and so that was a mechanic where you can rely on your squad members to help you, and in that case–when you’re low on ammo–your squad can share ammo.”
Call of Duty: WWII is set to release on 3rd November for the Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
