The Cemu team has been hard at work trying to get Breath of the Wild to run ever since it’s release, and it looks like their efforts are making more and more improvements. In just a month, they have come a long way. Two weeks ago, the team teased a video of the game with Cemu 1.7.4 running on what looked like a sold-30 fps, and now YamGaming has put up another video using the same version, claiming that Breath of the Wild is now “fully playable and beatable”.
The improvements in this video over the last one are quite drastic; Link doesn’t fall through the ground, you can swim around in the water, the grass looks like it’s supposed to, and objects can be interacted with properly. The framerate seems to have improved as well. Though it still seems to drop in some places, it’s much better than before.
One noteworthy thing is that YamGaming uses some serious equipment to run the game. The emulator is running on a setup featuring a Core i7-6700k @ 4.3 GHz, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1070. Trying to run Breath of the Wild on Cemu smoothly on Cemu is no easy task, as shown by the Zelda FPS guide on Reddit.
Another thing worth mentioning is that “fully playable” in no way means smooth or perfect. Since this build came out only a couple of days ago, it’s doubtful that someone has had the time to check the entirety of the game on the emulator, and there are still reports of bugs and FPS drops. Though you might be able to beat the game, don’t expect to do it without facing any issues and glitches on the way. Hopefully with the next builds we can see more improvements soon.
