Sony boasts of huge sales numbers, selling over 6.2 million PlayStation 4 units during this year’s holiday season. This brings the global PlayStation 4 sales to more than 53.4 million.
In an official release, Sony said that the holiday sales figures are based on internal estimates collected between 20th November, 2016 and 1st January, 2017. The company has yet not provided a breakdown of how well its PlayStation VR headset had done, or how well the new PlayStation 4 Pro has been selling compared to base models.
In December, Sony had announced that the PlayStation 4 had crossed about 50 million sales globally, a major milestone for the console. Talking about games, Sony said that they had sold over 50.4 million game copies, both physically and digitally, during the same holiday season. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End alone has sold more than 8.7 million copies globally.
“We are truly grateful for the tremendous support from our fans and partners, which has helped to make this holiday season one of the best in our history,” said Andrew House, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a release. “We will aim to continue the momentum this year by broadening the PS4 title portfolio, further enriching the revolutionary gaming experiences on PlayStation VR and high quality gaming experience on PlayStation 4 Pro, while also expanding network services. We will remain steadfast in making the PS4 the best place to play.”
