Inspired by Pokémon GO, Sony to “Aggressively” Enter Mobile Gaming

Seems like someone has been keen on picking up stuff from Nintendo and Niantec’s recent tactics. After the blaring success of Pokémon GO, Sony Chief Executive Kaz Hirai has said that Sony will will be aggressively entering the mobile market.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Hiraz said, “Mobile gaming is something we are aggressively getting into. It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well.” Stating his reasons as well, he says, “Pokémon Go is a real game-changer. I’m very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally.”

FowardWorks will be taking point on Sony’s smartphone game development, and additionally, the Financial Times has reported that Hiraz would also like to include AR as a feature in their smartphone games.

The studio hasn’t released or announced a single game yet, but with Sony’s conference in the Tokyo Game Show on 13th September may lead to some fruitful announcements. Considering that the Playstation 4 Neo is also rumored to be announced quite soon, along with the recent leak of Playstation 4 Slim, and the announcement for PS Now coming to PC, it seems like Sony has some big plans for the future.
